After Skylar left home in the morning, she first went to the Gardner Group.
She hadn’t seen Alexander for over three years, and he looked the same as before, without much change. Caleb, however, seemed more mature. He wholeheartedly followed his grandpa’s lead and learned from him. He would often call Skylar with various questions.
“Why have you lost weight? Is the food over there not to your taste? I’ll have some fresh vegetables sent to you,” Alexander said with a hint of concern when he saw that Skylar had noticeably lost weight.
Having lived far away from home for these years and bearing the pain of losing Joe, both Skylar and Gloria had suffered greatly. Who could have predicted such a turn in life?
“Grandpa, Edgar sends food over there every month, and we have everything we need, so don’t worry,” Caleb said, thinking that his grandpa was being a bit dramatic.
But seeing Skylar in person did reveal what the video calls couldn’t–she had indeed lost quite a bit of weight.
Skylar smiled, “Yes, I can find anything I want there. I lost some weight recently due to a cold and fever that took away my appetite, but I’ve already gained back two or three pounds since
returning.”
She wasn’t exaggerating. When she got back, she weighed herself, and after a few days of eating well, she had gained about two and a half pounds.
It seemed like the climate and food of Jipsburg really suited her.
“Haha, that’s good.” Alexander felt relieved to hear that. “Will you be staying for a few months this time?” NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
Skylar replied, “I’ll just stay for a month and see how things go. I’m still a bit worried about Grandma.”
She worried that in her absence, Gloria would not take her medication on time. Plus, with Skylar around, she wouldn’t feel as lonely.
Although Gloria had some friends abroad with whom she could hang out, she sometimes didn’t take her medicine on time.
“You’re such a good kid,” Alexander sighed.
Noticing his sadness, Skylar quickly changed the subject, “Mr. Gardner Senior, I’ve got some news about that person.”
“What?” Alexander immediately perked up.
Skylar then recounted what had happened with Ursula. She avoided mentioning the harm done
to Ursula and her mother by the Ruell family members, only focusing on the cursed necklace
and Kevin.
After listening, Alexander’s expression darkened. “It looks like he plans to stir up trouble again! We absolutely can’t let him succeed.”
Skylar nodded. “I’m heading to the Hughes family next to see how things are over there.”
“Alright, leave the search to me. I’ll have people look for him. A living person in Jipsburg can’t just disappear without a trace,” Alexander said, squinting his eyes and steeling his resolve. He had to find this person quickly. He couldn’t allow any more trouble in Jipsburg
“I’ll go to the Hughes‘ with you. I’m worried those people might give you a hard time. But with me there, they won’t dare to say anything unpleasant in front of you. Plus, there’s a charity gala tomorrow night, and I need a date–will you come with me?” Caleb suggested quickly.
Over the past few years, he had realized that no one else had caught his interest like Skylar did.
He had liked her for years and still did. Now that Joe was no longer in the way, he was determined to win Skylar’s heart.
Skylar was about to decline, but Alexander nodded. “It’s not a bad idea for this brat to accompany you. The situation there is likely more complicated than the Ruells.
“As for the gala, it’s up to you. These charity events happen several times a year in Jipsburg, and there’s not much novelty. Perhaps the auction of some rare antiques might interest you.”
Hearing this, Skylar could only smile and said, “Alright.”
Then, she turned to Caleb. “Let’s head out now.”
As Skylar walked out, Caleb whispered to Alexander, “Just you wait, I’ll bring back a granddaughter–in–law for you.”
“Look at yourself in the mirror, do you really think you’re worthy? Now get lost,” Alexander retorted with an eye roll. His grandson had only one real trait—he was being full of himself.
