Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Chapter 31- Nikolai
“Lady Mary has disappeared. She is not in your room, nor is she anywhere else in the castle.” The guard said timidly looking down at the ground.
I felt my heart skip a beat. Mary was missing, my mate had left me. I felt myself losing control over my vampire. He wanted to hunt down Mary and force her back home and have his way with her until she was too sore to even think about running away. It took all of my strength to shove him down. I didn’t have time to lose focus. The Alpha summit was in two days time and I was expected to be there, the King’s presence was required to keep the peace. If I didn’t show, there would be carnage, and then even more supernaturals would try to take my throne from me. I wanted to say fuck it, and abdicate, my throne, but I couldn’t let my people down. They needed a just leader, this wasn’t the time for me
to lose myself.
“I am leaving for the Alpha’s summit in two days time. I need Mary found before then. I want everyone looking for her. No stone will be left unturned.” I growled out.
“Nikolai, you need to reconsider, you can’t leave the castle unguarded while you look for your blood slave.” Kade said reaching out and grabbing my arm before I could leave the meeting hall.
“I can’t live without her.” I whispered to Kade, unshed tears filling my eyes.
I saw a look pass over Kade’s face and I knew he knew. I had just silently answered his question on whether Mary was my mate or not.
“Well this changes everything.” Kade muttered under his breath. “Everyone Leave.” He commanded, using his second in command authority. “Gregor, you’ll be in charge of executing the plan to rescue lady Mary. If any hair on her body is harmed, you’ll be answering to me.” He growled out.
The meeting hall quickly emptied and Kade walked around to ensure the silencing wards that had been put up in the meeting hall were still intact. The witch who had cast the wards, showed us how to detect them.
“Why did you tell me?” Kade asked, being careful still not to mention that Mary was my mate.
“I couldn’t afford the risk it would bring her.” I responded
PE
“But she is our…” He paused not 100% sure the silencing wards were completely effective. “Our Queen.” He mind linked me.
“She can’t be.” I responded out loud. “She isn’t strong enough, anyone and everyone would hunt her down and use her against me.”
Kade laughed out loud. I gave him a what the fuck look, now wasn’t the time for laughter. “You really are an idiot.” Kade replied to my look still chuckling to himself. “Mary, human or not, is the most stubborn pigheaded woman I have ever met. She went head to head with a werwolf for god only knows
how long. She is intelligent and quick witted, hell she out maneuvered your guards, and I know Gregor is one of the highest trained guards in the palace. She also has extreme strength. She is the only one who doesn’t cower to you, when your vamp goes ape shit.”
Wow, I didn’t know Kade thought so highly of Mary, I felt my heart swelling with pride for her.
“You lost her because you were too stubborn to admit that she is your equal. When we find her brother, because trust me, we will find her. You need to accept her for who she is. You can’t wrap her up in bubble wrap and protect her for the rest of her life.”
Kade was right, I had been too busy, trying to shield Mary from the evils of my world, that had avoided her. Her leaving was no ones fault but my own.
“Don’t worry brother,” Kade responded reaching out, grabbing my shoulder, “We will find her.”
I took in a deep breath to reign in my emotions. “Let’s go to Nevaeh, I’ll need to feed her earlier tonight. I plan on going out to help with the search for Mary, I think the bond might help me locate her. Right now my chest feels empty, like I’m missing something, I think the further apart we are the bond will fight to pull us back together again.”
Kade nodded, agreeing with my statement. We opened the door to the meeting hall and quickly walked up to the royal floor. Kade had moved Nevaeh into his room so he could keep an eye on her while she recovered.
“Now that you know my dark secret, are you going to tell me what’s going on between the two of you?” I asked Kade as we made our way to his room.
Kade’s steps falter, I could tell he was expecting my question. He was silent for a moment before finally responding
“I am fond of her, I don’t know if it is because of her exotic nature, or because she challenges me. I also know that on some level, she has grown to care for me as well. When she first got her, she was timid and afraid of me, the perfect blood slave for most vampires, but as you know I like my women to be willing. After a week or so in, she finally started to loosen up around me when she realized I wasn’t going to force her. I don’t know fi she’s fond of me, because I offer her a sense of freedom, or if she’s grown feelings for me.”
“Well once she gets better, I suppose you can ask her for yourself.” I responded.
“How ironic is this,” Kade laughed, “Two of the strongest vampires this world has ever seen, and we are pining over human women.”
I chuckled alongside Kade feeling a bit of my stress fading away, knowing that I had my best friend on my side.
When we walked into Kade’s room, he let out a gasp, sitting up in bed, leaning against the head rest for support, with her eyes open was Nevaeh. While still extraordinarily pale, I could hear the increased beating of her heart. She was on the road to recovery.
“Nevaeh,” Kade called running to her, and pulling her into his arms. “I am so fucking sorry, I didn’t Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
mean to lose control.” He cried holding her tightly against him.
I smiled to myself, Kade had definitely played down his feelings for Nevaeh.
“Careful Kade, you don’t want to squish her. She is still recovering.” I responded gently.
“Oh shit.” Kade said, releasing Nevaeh and gently laying her back against the head rest. “Fuck!” He growled out. “I can’t get any of this right.
I watched as Nevaeh’s shaky hand reached out and grabbed Kade’s hand.
“Shh.. Calm down Kade. It is alright. When we played your game of chase, I knew the risks, you warned me, and yet I was still willing to take them. This isn’t your fault, you can’t beat yourself up. And I am still here. I haven’t gone anywhere. You gained enough control over your vampire to save
me.”
Kade looked down at their joined hands, before bringing Nevaeh’s up and kissing it gently. “I am so happy you’re here beautiful.”
I felt like I was eavesdropping on an intimate moment, but Nevaeh still needed some of my blood to make a full recovery. I cleared my throat, interrupting their moment.
“I need to give Nevaeh my blood so I can start searching for Mary.”
I heard her increased heartbeat before I realized what I had said. “Mary?” Nevaeh asked, panic evident in her voice, “What has happened to Mary?”
Kade shot me an angry look. “Calm down love,” He said, rubbing her back. “Mary will be fine.”
“Will be?” Nevaeh asked, “What does that mean? Where is Mary?”
“She ran away,”I responded walking towards Kade and Nevaeh. “You’ve known Mary longer than we have, you’ve spoken to her on more occasions as well, do you know where she would have run off to?” I ask gently.
“If she’s escaped, I don’t to ruin her trust, by telling you where she went.”
“Nevaeh,” I responded gently knowing that humans could sometimes be frail creatures. “Mary is in danger, I need to get to her quickly and make sure she is out of harms way.”
“This is because you’ve marked her isn’t it?” Nevaeh asked shocking both Kade and myself. Then recalled when Mary first asked me if I had marked her, at the time I hadn’t known it, but Nevaeh had.
“Yes,” I responded. “It’s because I marked her, every supernatural that has it out for the crown will be
Nevaeh paused for a minute, I’m sure she was pondering on whether or not this information was pertinent enough to betray Mary’s trust.
“She said if she ever escaped she would take revenge of those who murdered her family. She said she
in . . .
. . . . . . . . …..
would start with the shifters first, who killed her sister in cold blood.” Nevaeh responded.
I felt myself grow cold as my worst fears came to life, Mary was headed to the Werewolf Pack territories. She was headed straight towards Alpha Ash, if I didn’t find her soon, she would be worse than dead. The Alpha would force her to become his. I quickly sliced into my wrist, putting my hand up to Nevaeh’s mouth, “Drink, it’ll help you heal faster.” She looked to Kade, before taking my wrist and drinking my blood. Feeding Nevaeh wasn’t euphoric at all, and I could tell she didn’t receive the pleasure endorphins my blood normally released, I wondered if this had anything to do with how she felt towards Kade, I would have to ponder that later. Right now, I had a mate who needed saving.
