Chapter 2334
Jace stared at the woman before him.
Clarice's bloodshot eyes and twisted expression amplified the disgust Jace felt for her. He could not fathom how someone so deranged and vicious had once stood at Justin's side. Even though Bella and Justin were no longer together, Clarice was far from deserving his attention. Clarice could not compare to the dirt on Bella's shoes.
Suddenly, Jace recalled the car accident. He pictured Bella's pale face streaked with blood, her body battered, as she struggled to crawl out of the wreck. The fierce tenacity in her eyes was something he had never witnessed in any other woman.
His heart trembled involuntarily, though a piercing pain pulsed in his temples, forcing him to close his eyes and hold his breath against the agony.
"Hahahaha!" Clarice burst into laughter, her body shaking. "Justin! That man has finally met his match! If he ever realizes that the woman he has hurt over and over is the very one he's wanted to repay, this truth will devastate him beyond measure. Serves him right! This is his karma! His retribution!"
"At first, I didn't know the person Justin had been searching for was Ms. Thompson." Grant turned his wheelchair around, his voice calm and steady. "Not until I had my uncle investigate her background in detail did I realize she had been following Justin from the shadows. When Justin went to Kridor on assignment, she applied to be a volunteer for Doctors Without Borders in that war-torn, dangerous country.
"Her reason was obvious. My uncle even found her medical records from abroad, showing she had suffered severe injuries on her fingers, with treatment dates matching Justin's mission timeline. When Justin returned to the capital, so did she. All of it indicated that Bella was indeed Little Dove."
Clarice's eyes widened as she quickly praised him. "You are truly incredible, sir! Nothing escapes you!"
However, facing away from them, Grant had a dark and brooding expression, different from his usual calm demeanor. Hearing her praise only deepened his displeasure, making him look like a different person.
"Tomorrow, use this information to keep Justin occupied," Grant ordered.
Clarice nodded eagerly. "Understood."
"Jace, I want you to follow him in the shadows," Grant added.
Jace hesitated, his gaze faltering. "Follow... Justin?"
"If anything changes, you must prevent them from meeting with whatever means necessary." Grant's voice was cold, his gaze sharp as he looked back at him. "Jace, surely a task like this is trivial for you. I expect nothing less than success."
His tone bore down on Jace, a chill that left no room for argument. It was an order.
Jace swallowed dryly and bowed. "Rest assured, sir."
Grant's smile returned, though it lacked warmth. "By the way, did you deal with those two at tonight's banquet who were gossiping about Ms. Thompson?"
Clarice froze. Grant, who never wasted effort on irrelevant people, had decided to take action against those who merely gossiped about Bella.
She thought, 'Could it be that he truly had feelings for her??
Jace replied, "My men arranged it to look like an accident. No trace will lead back to us."
Grant nodded slightly, his smile devoid of warmth. "Good. People like that are hardly worth the trouble for my people to handle directly."Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
