Chapter 40: As If Nothing Had Happened
But, Lilian, have you ever thought that although I am a man, I also have times when I need warmth, when for all the years we have been together, there has been a moment when you have given in to me when I have needed you by my side in the silence of a cold night. You should understand that you should refuse this engagement!” After all these years, I feel really tired!
“No, Tredan!” Lilian Drye couldn’t sit still any longer, she got up and pulled Tredan Davi to her, she hugged him in her arms and shed tears of anguish, “Please, Tredan, don’t do this to me, I’ll change into everything that you want me to be, okay? I’ll change, I’ll never be a princess again, I’ll never be capricious again, please Tredan, I can’t live without you, I really can’t!” Lilian Drye had become a weak, miserable figure in Tredan Davi’s arms.
“Lilian, will you be sensible? Let’s just calmly deal with this matter and get it over with, okay?” Tredan Davi was a little upset to see Lilian Drye crying so sadly.
“Tredan, you do love me, don’t you? That bitch Octavia Gills must have said something to you, didn’t she? Is it because of her that you’re treating me like this?” Lilian Drye couldn’t believe that Tredan Davi would reject the heir to the esteemed Group Drye because of a woman who was as ordinary and unassuming as Octavia Gills.
“It has nothing to do with her, no one can break a relationship between two people if there are no problems, it’s just the two of us who realized the problems in our relationship too late. Whether Octavia existed or not, we really couldn’t make it any further than now!”
“I don’t believe you; you couldn’t have done this to me if that bitch hadn’t compelled you!” Lilian Drye angrily slammed her cup of tea on the dining table and stood up like a madman, glaring at Tredan Davi.
“Tredan, are you sure you want to call off this engagement?” If Tredan Davi dared to call off the engagement, she would see to it that Tredan Davi will come to her door with nothing but a red nose and beg her. Drye felt so merciless at that moment!
“I’m sure!” Tredan Davi didn’t even bother to answer with hesitation; his reply was that straightforward.
“Very well, Tredan, you treated me heartlessly today, but tomorrow do not blame me for being heartless too!” Lilian Drye picked up her bag from the rattan chair and turned to leave, vowing in her mind as she did so: “Octavia Gills, you will not get away with stealing my man. If Tredan Davi gave her up for a woman like that, Tredan Davi will regret it!”
Tredan Davi looked at the hills in the distance, the trees are so green, and his heart felt like it was at peace, except that he was beginning to worry about Octavia Gills.
The words Lilian Drye had said ruthlessly echoed in his mind, and if his father, Floyd Davi, knew he had backed out of the engagement privately then Octavia Gills would be exposed soon. One Lilian Drye was enough to worry about. If his father intervened then Octavia Gills’ life would be disrupted and even more so. Tredan Davi will have to take a good look at this and figure out how to protect Octavia Gills from this break-up.
“Domino, don’t you have to work today? Is it appropriate to stay in my office all the time?”
Since Octavia Gills came to work this morning, her best friend Domino has been clinging to Octavia Gills like a piece of candy to a child and has been telling Octavia Gills that if she is too sad, she shouldn’t keep it inside and that she must cry so that she will feel better.
Octavia Gills laughed and cried at this because she had told Domino a million times that she couldn’t stop loving Tredan. But Domino thinks she was very sad and was just acting as if nothing was wrong now.
Octavia Gills would be lying if she said that her heart hadn’t been affected by it. But she knew from the start that this would happen, and Octavia Gills had cried and grieved all she needed to last night. Although the Group Davi subsidiary has been discussing the engagement dinner between the Group Davi Prince and the Qin’s daughter, as soon as she closed her office door, she pretended that nothing has happened. Domino is so worried about Octavia Gills that she secretly took the time off work and sat in Octavia Gills’ office, pretending to be lazy.
“Ding, it’s just about noontime, lunchtime, let’s go!” Domino wasn’t going to give Octavia Gills any chance to say no to her, taking her by the hand and dragging her out the door, while answering Woodrow’s call.
“Say, Woodrow, can’t you be a bit patient? I’m already rushing out the door, aren’t I?”
Does Domino have an appointment with Woodrow? Domino was dragging Octavia Gills, and desperately trying to get out of the office.
“Why are you dragging me out to cheer me up when you have a date with a handsome guy? You go and enjoy yourself; I don’t need to be there. Besides, I still need to catch up on my monthly financial statements!”
“No! How can I leave you on your own? Besides, Woodrow and I are always fighting with each like cats and dogs! We’d get along better if you were there! And, for the record, I’m going to ask Woodrow to find out what Tredan Davi is up to. I don’t care, if he goes and gets engaged to Lilian, I’m going to beat the shit out of him! That’ll take the edge off!” Domino got angrier and angrier as she spoke, getting louder and louder.
“Hush …”
Octavia Gills was taken aback by Domino’s big-hearted nature! “We’re still in the office, Domino, keep your voice down!”
“Whoops!” At Octavia Gills’ warning, the first thing Domino did was to cover her mouth with Octavia at hand, and looked around to see if anyone had heard her.
“I’m sorry Octavia, I’m just a bit angry, who is Tredan Davi to make you suffer so much.”
Octavia Gills has asked herself numerous times why she is so attached to Tredan Davi who is the same age as her brother, but she doesn’t feel like an older sister to him.
“Yes, and Domino, do you know why I’ve been so out of sorts since I met Tredan?” Domino put her hand on Octavia Gills’ forehead to check her temperature and said reassuringly, “Luckily, you don’t have a fever! Come on, let’s have our meal, it’s not like you’ve been under his spell for a day or two anyway, you’ve been poisoned for 20 years so there’s no cure for it! It’s better to forget about it and just go out with me for a bit of a fling!”Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Octavia Gills was a little embarrassed by Domino’s taunting! Woodrow, who was waiting outside the door, heard their conversation and used it to talk to Domino in the same way, using a super gross tone of voice.
“Bummer, Domino, I’ve been waiting here for you for twenty-three minutes and thirty-six seconds and you’re really annoying!”
“Woodrow, do you have any idea what you’re doing, it’s giving me the goosebumps, you should think twice about giving me that psychological approach before you speak? How do you expect me to live?” Domino’s aura as a ‘big sister’ to Octavia Gills, immediately changed into a ‘little girl’ state in seconds.
Ha ha ha…
Octavia Gills couldn’t help but laugh out loud, every time she saw Domino and Woodrow together. It felt like they were a happy little couple, it was so funny, but it was also a match made in heaven and it was nice to see Domino like that.
Domino blushed at Octavia Gills’ teasing, “Octavia, when did you get so mean?”
“Hey, two big beauties, get in the car! This young master is treating you to a delicious meal!” Woodrow opened the car door for both of them and the three of them drove off in a lively and playful manner.
Drye Family Villa.
Lilian Drye came out of that farmhouse and rushed straight home! The first thing she said to Eldwin when she walked in the door was, “Tell Elda to come and see me!”
“I wonder what it is you want with her Princess? She’s at…” Eldwin knew from the moment Lilian Drye returned with a black face that the situation was not good, and Eldwin just wanted to shallowly try to find out for Elda what was going on and how serious it was! Before he could finish his sentence, Lilian Drye picked up the vase beside him and slammed it down with one hand, and roared like a river lion, “I… said… get me, Elda. Are you deaf? Did I tell you to nag me? Go, now! Right now! Tell Elda to get her ass over here!”
Eldwin had never seen Lilian Drye spill out her guts like that before, and he knew that this time it wouldn’t go well for Elda. He shook his head and went straight down to the servants’ quarters to look for Elda.
“Elda, what have you done to offend the princess lately, why is it that every time she comes with a dark face, she particularly asks for you?” Eldwin was so worried, that if there was something in particular to prevent the princess’ anger, he wouldn’t have almost set himself on fire by asking her about it. Even though the princess always had a temper, she treated Eldwin with respect like an uncle, but today??
“I… me, hey Mr. Eldwin, don’t get yourself involved in this! It’s a curse that can’t be avoided! You go about your business; I’ll go over and see the Princess!” Elda had been working for the Drye Family for over twenty years, and she knew very well how everyone in the family dealt with each other. Octavia stole her boyfriend. What goes around always comes around!
“Princess, is there something you want to ask me?” Elda already knew what it was, but the next thing she knew, the princess was tearing her apart.
“Elda, is there anything in particular that you feel when you look at this mess all over the house? Have you ever thought to yourself why I asked for you?” Lilian Drye took a packet of cigarettes from a wooden box in a drawer, with the words all written in English, Elda couldn’t read a word of it, just watched as Lilian Drye clasped a stick using two fingers in her left hand, took a lighter with her right and lit it up. She took a deep puff, inhaling the burning tobacco smoke deep into her lungs, holding it in for a long time before finally exhaling it gently in the air!
Elda looked at Lilian Drye in disbelief and saw her smoking a cigarette. That’s bad for your health, you’re a girl, you can’t smoke like an outsider!”
“Fuck off!” Lilian Drye pushed Elda away with one hand and slapped Elda in the face with indignation.
