Chapter 50 Jocelyn Got What She Wanted
"You don't need to get the thermometer! Why don't you take Jocelyn back to her room? I can't imagine how uncomfortable Jocelyn feels in Jeffrey's tiny bed."
Beatrice appeared worried. "Calvin, how come you don't know how to take care of a girl at all?" she wondered.
Calvin had no choice but to carry Jocelyn back to his bedroom and place her on the bed. He began taking her temperature after finding a thermometer.
Upon learning that Calvin would stay in the room with Jocelyn, Beatrice left with Tammy and Jeffrey. "Calvin, please take good care of Jocelyn. I'm going to give the kids a bath."
"Got it."
Calvin realized that Jocelyn's plan had worked. She'd gotten what she desired.
Just before she left, Tammy told Calvin, "Please, Daddy, take good care of Mommy. Don't you go away! I'll be back in a bit to see how you're doing."
On the other hand, Jeffrey appeared to be doubtful. The way Calvin used the thermometer wrong gave Jeffrey the impression that he was completely unqualified to take care of anyone.
Jeffrey even wanted to invite Todd, which he thought was his biological father, over.
Calvin sighed heavily after they left.
He stared at the woman on the bed. When he saw how much she hurt, he felt conflicted. NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
He rarely cared about anyone else because he was always the center of everybody's attention.
Beatrice raised his son, Sean, for him. He was responsible for looking after Jocelyn but had no idea how to go about it.
He reached for the thermometer after some time had passed. She was running a temperature of 39.6 degrees, he discovered.
Her fever was quite severe.
Calvin called Shamar again.
While on his way, Shamar instructed Calvin to cool Jocelyn's forehead first. "Put an ice pack on her forehead first if you have one."
After hanging up the phone, Calvin got an ice pack and placed it on Jocelyn's head.
Jocelyn was disoriented due to her high fever, so she kept mumbling, "Don't go..."
Calvin noticed her lips moving but had no idea what she was saying. He moved closer to her so he could hear her words clearly.
"Don't leave me, Mom!"
When he heard her screaming, "Mom," he knew she had a dream about her mom.
She cried out, "Mom, don't go," and her face clearly showed pain. On the day her mother passed away, Calvin suddenly recalled, she sat alone on the balcony, looking lonely and sad.
In her dream, Jocelyn saw Helena was leaving. She desperately wanted to hold on to her, so she kept scratching at thin air.
Calvin had no idea why he reached out to grab her hand.
In her dream, Jocelyn grabbed her mom's hand. Her head held high, and she begged her mother repeatedly to stay.
"Don't leave me, mommy! Don't leave me alone!"
Calvin saw that she was upset. There was moisture on her eyelashes, and a tear trickled out of one of her eyes.
Calvin's emotions were all over the place after he saw Jocelyn cry. Even though she was usually unbreakable, he couldn't help but sigh at her frailty.
Jocelyn dreamed that she was clinging desperately to her mother's hand.
She remembered some happy memories of her childhood.
As a kid, she always dressed like a princess and ran around the garden in her pretty dresses. Her mother would sit nearby and knit sweaters to keep her company.
Other memories she thought about brought back the pain.
Helena's smile faded as she fought with Jocelyn's father more and more.
Jocelyn one day found her mom sobbing quietly on the bed's edge as her dad left the room in anger with a jacket in hand.
They started fighting more and more later on. Her father not only insulted Helena but also hit her.
One day, Jocelyn found her mother in the bathtub soaking in blood.
Helena never woke up again.
"Mommy, don't die! Please, for the love of God, open your eyes and take a look at me!"
The day Jocelyn realized she could no longer wake her mother forever changed her.
The sight of the blood hurt her eyes and her feelings.
Jocelyn appeared to be in extreme pain. Calvin pondered what she could have dreamed about that would cause her to cry.
He reached out, for some reason unknown to him, and wiped her tears away.
Shamar entered Calvin's home and immediately made his way to the bedroom. The bizarre scene he saw surprised him.
"What am I looking at? Calvin has never been with a woman! Does he want to take advantage of this girl while she's sick? Or is he taking care of her?" Shamar thought to himself.
"Hello, Calvin!"
The sudden sound of Shamar's voice startled Calvin. Instantly, he straightened up and pulled back his hand.
Once Calvin realized what he had done, he raised his fist in embarrassment and coughed several times softly. "The timing couldn't have been better! Hurry up and take a look at her."
Shamar dropped his medical kit and started checking Jocelyn as soon as he entered the room.
After making the diagnosis, Shamar told Calvin that Jocelyn's fever was due to a cold. He gave her a prescription for cold and fever relief and assured her that she would feel better once she started taking it as directed.
Still feeling bewildered, Shamar surveyed Jocelyn once more as he packed up his medical kit.
On numerous occasions, Todd had brought up Jocelyn in front of them. But not only did this woman never leave Calvin's side, but she also lived at his house.
He was curious about what was going on between the three of them and how Jocelyn could be involved with two men at the same time.
Shamar didn't dare ask any questions about that. He only said, "Calvin, I've noticed you're getting more and more compassionate lately. You even know how to take care of a girl! Congratulations on your significant progress!"
"Fuck off!"
Calvin kicked Shamar right in the ass. He only looked after Jocelyn because his mother made him.
"Fine! I have to get going."
Shamar thought of an important thing as he was leaving. He said, "Oh, by the way, Calvin, we got a new lead from Star Alliance."
Calvin said seriously, "What?"
Shamar said something into Calvin's ear. Calvin's expression became more serious as he listened, and his gaze became more ferocious.
Calvin was in charge of the Star Alliance network of information providers. He formed this alliance to find out who murdered his father and brother back then.
He planned to use the clues to find the murderers and exact revenge.
...
Jocelyn woke up in the afternoon.
Both her fever and the headache had subsided. As she struggled to get up, she was surprised to find herself in Calvin's bedroom.
"What? I thought I had fallen asleep in the kids' room!" Jocelyn thought to herself.
Jocelyn then heard someone typing on a keyboard. She saw Calvin sitting on the couch beside her, tapping his laptop.
"Hmm? Why is Calvin here? How could he put up with my sleeping in his room?" In a surprise, she thought to herself.
