Chapter 56 Don’t Move
“We should have received money from The Byran Group, right?”
“That’s good. We must strictly control the quality of project procurement.”
“I’ll hang up first. I’ll be right there.”
In the bathroom, Amanda put her phone on the shelf and applied lipstick in front of the mirror. She had good skin, and her lipstick made her look clean and elegant.
With the project about to begin, the Byran Group’s funds had arrived in quick succession. Amanda had been working on purchasing the raw materials for the past few days. Once she confirmed the purchase of the raw materials, all left was for her to occasionally visit the project.
“Here we are.”
“Thank you, sir.”
Amanda got out of the taxi and looked at the dilapidated old town in front of her. She could see the hustle and bustle of the future.
The project they cooperated with the Byran Group this time was the old town in the south of the city.
They were going to build an ancient town with tourism, entertainment, and leisure collection. It was just in time for the government’s renovation of the old community. As the general manager of the Sean Group at that time, Amanda prevailed over all opposition and won this project.
“Miss Jewell.”
As soon as Amanda got out of the taxi, she saw the project’s chief engineer waiting at the alley entrance.
“Mr. Ewell.”
“Miss Jewell, everything about purchasing is almost done. Only the last batch of materials is left. The suppliers will be sent to the warehouse before the construction. The staff in the community have almost been moved, but some people are still unwilling to move out.”
“How many people are there exactly?”
“The information is here. We’ve talked about most other households, leaving only this one. Their supplement money has been paid, but the old lady is unwilling to move, and we don’t dare to tear it down by force.”
“Don’t do it by force,” Amanda glanced at the information thoughtfully and said, “how about this? Take me to have a look.”
“Okay!”
Amanda and Mr. Ewell walked deeper into the alley together. They explained as they walked, “Our project is centered around remodeling. Only a small number of buildings have been demolished. People should try not to move away as much as possible and keep them still live here.”
“I know what you mean, but Mr. Sean…”
“What happened to him?”
Amanda was talking when she heard noises coming from the front.
Amanda looked up and saw pots and pans thrown out of a low bungalow. They fell to the ground with a clatter and rolled to Amanda’s feet.
Mr. Ewell said, “Miss Jewell, it’s here.”
As he spoke, he hurriedly stepped forward to stop them. “What are you guys doing?”
Amanda frowned and followed him.
Two ruffian-looking men came out of the house carrying a pile of things and were about to throw them out. One of them, a bald man, threw the things directly at Mr. Ewell. “What are you meddling in? We are the demolition team. This house has been requisitioned, and the money has been paid. The old lady won’t move, so we can only help her move.”
Amanda questioned them. “Where are you from? Who asked you to move here?”
“Does the Sean Group know? This place has been exploited and developed by them. They have to move away.”
“Ah, is that so?” Amanda’s face darkened. “I’m in charge of the project from the Sean Group. Why haven’t I heard they’ve sent a team to demolish the building by force?”
The two of them were still very arrogant. “You? The person in charge? Who are you trying to scare?”
“She’s indeed the person in charge of our project.”
A female voice came from behind Amanda.
The familiar voice made Amanda’s back stiffen, and she subconsciously clenched her fists.
It was Olinka.
“Miss Fane,” the two men immediately greeted him respectfully. It was apparent that they knew her.
Amanda had figured out what was going on.
“Did you send them?” Amanda looked at Olinka flatly. “Who gave you the right to interfere in the project?”
Olinka crossed her arms and said righteously, “Of course, the president of the Sean Group gave me the right. Mr. Byran has designated the person in charge as you, but he hasn’t designated a specific member. I just want to help.”
“Is this what you did for me?”
Amanda glanced at the room behind her. The door was in a mess, and the old wooden door had apparent signs of being smashed, teetering on the verge of collapse.
Olinka looked down on her. “Amanda, are you an otherworldly woman? We’ve paid her, but the old lady refuses to move. She wants to extort more money from us. That’s the only way we can solve this problem. Otherwise, you’ll have to take responsibility for the delay.”This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Break it down!”
Olinka ordered the two men directly.
Amanda scolded her. “Let’s see who dares!”
“Amanda, that’s enough. Are you not satisfied with me being the villain?”
“Olinka, in the name of the person in charge of the project. I’m telling you now that you’ve been fired. This project has nothing to do with you from now on.”
“What?”
“I don’t want to repeat the same words again.”
Amanda went straight to the bungalow’s door and glanced at the two men. “You heard that. If anyone dares to move another thing here, I’ll send him to the police station for a few days.”
The two men took a few steps back when they saw this.
Olinka’s face flickered between green and white. “Amanda, you’re a good person, aren’t you? You’ll regret this one day.”
With these words, she swaggered off.
Mr. Ewell let out a breath of relief and helped to pick up the things on the ground. “Miss Jewell, thank goodness you came in time.”
Amanda also picked up something and knocked on the nearly nonexistent door. “Madam, can I come in?”
The light in the room was dim, and there was a weak voice. Amanda couldn’t hear what she was talking about.
Amanda was stunned for a moment when she suddenly realized something. She hurried in and said, “Mr. Ewell, the old lady fainted. Call an ambulance!”
In the hospital
“Doctor, how is the patient?”
“She has been rescued for the time being, but it’s hard to say whether she can wake up or not. After all, she is in her nineties, and her physical functions are not very good. You sent her here early, or she can’t be saved.”
Hearing that, Amanda felt conflicted.
The lonely old lady and her children were not with her, so it was inevitable for such things to happen.
Next to him, Mr. Ewell handed Amanda a bottle of water. “Miss Jewell, have some water.”
Amanda came back to her senses and said, “Thank you.”
“Miss Jewell, how should we deal with the old lady?”
“Still can’t get in touch with her son?”
Mr. Ewell nodded helplessly.
“Make arrangements for her to stay in the hospital first. I’ll pay for the medical expenses myself.”
“How can I ask you to pay for it yourself?”
“It’s okay; I ran into it.” Amanda thought of something. “By the way, find a few more people to keep an eye on the demolition. Don’t let it happen again. I’ll return to the company for a meeting tomorrow and discuss it.”
“Alright, I’ll do it now.”
After Mr. Ewell left, Amanda pulled a chair out of the ward and sat down.
The phone vibrated in her pocket.
“Hello!”
“Where are you?”
A flat voice came from the other end of the line, startling Amanda. “City hospital.”
“What happened?”
“It’s okay; it’s not me.”
“Don’t move.”
“Huh?” Amanda hung up before she could finish her sentence.
Only then did she realize several missed calls on her phone, all from Iverson.
