PREGNANT BUT REJECTED AS A BILLIONAIRE WIFE

PHB 102

Although they hadn’t known each other for long, Veronica could tell that Lucas was the type of guy who didn’t easily get angry. So far, from the moment he tried to win over Deasy, Veronica believed that Lucas was a gentle and caring man who truly respected women.

Back then, when Deasy intentionally tried to provoke him, hurling insults and even deliberate humiliation, Lucas wasn’t offended or deterred in the slightest. He remained faithful and continued to try to win over Deasy, who was as stubborn as a rock.

So, if he was angry now, Veronica was sure there must have been something that Deasy had done that had crossed the line. After all, people don’t get angry and sulk for no reason.

“Well… no, it’s not just that.”

“Then what?”

“This Joseph guy initially praised me. He said I looked prettier than before. So, the two of us started chatting about various things. We even discussed how he’s still not married to this day. So, I casually asked him if he, being handsome and financially stable, still hasn’t found a partner. Joseph replied that he intentionally didn’t look for a girlfriend because he was waiting for me.”

“And then… what happened next?”

“I did praise Joseph a bit, to be honest. I jokingly told him he was handsome and would easily find a replacement for me. Well, turns out Lucas overheard our conversation. When we got home, he got angry. He said he didn’t like hearing me praise other guys. He also said he felt uncomfortable seeing me giggling and being called pretty by Joseph.”

“Seriously, you were over the moon when Joseph praised you?”

Deasy nodded innocently, confirming what Veronica had just asked.

“It’s only human, Ve, to feel flattered. Especially when your ex praises you.”

“Oh my goodness, Deasy!”

Veronica leaned in and playfully flicked Deasy’s forehead. Despite feeling perfectly normal earlier, after hearing Deasy’s story, she was now getting annoyed and could empathize with what Lucas must have felt.

“No wonder your husband got mad. Your behavior was outrageous. Anyone would get upset if they saw their partner acting so flirtatiously like you did.”

“Oh, come on, Ve. Joseph and I didn’t do anything. Besides, we bumped into each other by chance.”

“But you intentionally complimented his looks, right?”

“Well, yes, I did.”

“Well, then. It’s no wonder Lucas got mad, and it’s perfectly normal. If I were him, I’d be annoyed too and wouldn’t want to deal with you.”

“Why are you taking Lucas’s side?”

“I’m not taking his side,” Veronica objected. “I’m just telling you what should be done. Now, let me ask you this, is Lucas currently giving you the silent treatment?”

Deasy nodded repeatedly. Since they returned from the hospital the other day, her husband had been giving her the cold shoulder.

“Actually, Lucas isn’t completely ignoring me. He still joins me for meals, be it breakfast or dinner. He still feeds me. He massages me before bed. And even before work, he still kisses me. What’s frustrating is that he never responds whenever I try to talk.”

“So, he’s not 100% mad.”

“But he’s annoying, Ve. It’s like he’s intentionally retaliating against me.”

Veronica’s eyebrows furrowed. She was curious about how Lucas had retaliated against her friend.

“Just so you know, I really wanted to win him over. So, I deliberately cooked and prepared his favorite lunch. I took time off to surprise him at his office. I was hoping he’d be happy with the surprise I had prepared. But it turns out Lucas intentionally went out for lunch with another woman.”

“What? Really?” Veronica was shocked. She needed to confirm what she had just heard. “Lucas went out for lunch with another woman?”

“With Devina, Ve. Lucas deliberately went out for lunch with Devina. Even though I worked hard to prepare his favorite meal. I went through all the trouble to bring it to his office, and he just left me hanging like that. It’s so infuriating! I swear, I feel like crying over this.”

Deasy had a look of disappointment on her face. Instead of feeling sad, Veronica burst into laughter.

“So, how did it feel to see your husband intentionally having lunch with his ex-fiancée?”

Deasy sighed. She was already irritated, and now she was being asked about her feelings.

“Do you have to ask??? It’s so annoying, seriously! Who in the world would be happy to see their partner intentionally going out or having too much interaction with another woman, especially when it’s clearly their ex-fiancée?”

“So, you’re jealous?”

Deasy nodded.

“Do you even need to ask, Veronica!”

“It hurts, and you’re really angry, right?” Veronica confirmed. “Maybe that’s how Lucas felt when he saw you chatting so comfortably with Joseph.”

“But, Veronica, I didn’t do anything wrong. We were just talking.”

“The problem is you were chatting with your ex-boyfriend, Deasy Winterborne. Who, by the way, still hasn’t completely moved on from you. It’s a different situation from Lucas going out with his ex-fiancée, who clearly he didn’t love from the start.”

“His actions were still over the top. I mean, I went through all the trouble of making him lunch. It’s like he didn’t appreciate it at all. He just left with another woman.”

“Did you bring the lunch back home then?”

Deasy shook her head.

“No, I didn’t bother. I just left it on Lucas’s office desk. I was already so annoyed. As soon as he left, I left too.”

Veronica chuckled softly. Seeing Deasy getting angrier, she decided to offer some advice and suggestions that might be useful.

“Des, let me tell you. When you’re married, you have to be smart about handling situations. It’s okay to maintain friendly relations with an ex-boyfriend, but don’t overdo it, especially with the compliments. Keep it casual. Excessive behavior is not good, unless it’s about money. As for Lucas responding to your actions, I think you shouldn’t get angry or take it personally.”

“So, you think I should just accept it?”

Veronica didn’t disagree. She nodded repeatedly.

“After all, this all started because you initiated it, right? Besides, it’s a trivial matter, Des. There’s no need to retaliate or escalate it further. Especially not to the point of thinking about leaving or running away. What’s the point? It’ll only complicate your marriage. If there’s any issue, it should be resolved amicably. Don’t keep running away from it.”

“Who said I want to run away?”

“Who knows, maybe you want to follow the wives in Indonesian soap operas. Whenever there’s a problem, they immediately think about running away. Going as far as possible while taking the child with them, hoping their husband will regret it. Please, don’t be melodramatic! Get rid of such silly thoughts!”

“Damn,” Deasy muttered. “I would never think of running away or anything like that, Veronica. Seriously! I’d be crazy to let go of a handsome and wealthy guy like Lucas just because of something like this.”

“That’s smart. I’m sure Lucas will come around on his own. Besides, we both know, between you and Lucas, who is the more rational one.”

Deasy squinted at Veronica. Behind the helpful advice her friend was giving, there was always a hint of mockery that never seemed to be absent from her lips. So, she just resigned herself to her fate!
