Chapter 70
Chapter 70 His Protection
Emily hadn't seen Jackson for almost a week.
The last time at the city hall, if it weren't for him, Nathan would have forced her. No matter how bad Jackson's attitude was, Emily remembered his favor.
"Um..." Emily asked awkwardly, "What's bothering you?"
"My heart."
"...Heart disease?"
Jackson was furious. "No heart disease. My body is as strong as a bull, my heart is perfectly fine!"
Emily took a step back, avoiding his anger.
"If it's not a heart problem, then what is it?"
"I just can't figure it out," Jackson stood with his hands on his hips, looking down at her, "You're pretty, but there are many pretty women out there, and you have a bad temper, not to mention you're dumb. I just don't understand why I feel uneasy when I haven't seen you for a few days?" Emily was stunned. "Huh?"
"What's with the 'huh'? Are you pretending to be stupid again?" Jackson glared at her angrily. "I asked my brother, and he said that he and you are not in a relationship. He may be a bit uptight, but he never lies, so I believe him. Since you and my brother have no relationship, where did he take you from my car that day? And what did you do afterward?"
Emily took a deep breath and frowned. "Is that what he said? We're not in a relationship?"
"Yeah, do you have any other relationship with him?"
Emily denied repeatedly, "No, no, whatever he says is what it is, I'll take his word for it."
Jackson's expression softened a bit. "I was actually planning to look for you. I've thought it over this week. If you're my brother's woman, I'll back off, but if you're not, I won't let you go."
Emily sensed his implication and wanted to explain, "Boss, let me explain, I actually..."
"Okay, I know what you're going to say," he interrupted. "You're married, right? You have someone you want to spend your life with? I've thought about it, and none of that matters. I don't mind at all. I'm completely fine with it. As for the person you like now, I'm wealthy and good-looking. Besides my brother, I'm confident I can win you over. You might reject me now because of him, but it's okay. I'll let you know that I'll be your best choice."
His passionate speech might have moved an ordinary girl, but Emily found it troublesome.
She could tell that Jackson respected Allen Parker a lot, but she couldn't reveal the truth to him. Mr. Satan didn't want his identity exposed, and she couldn't interfere with his plans.
It was awkward.
"Boss, have you ever considered your future life? Like how many children you'll have?"
Jackson was puzzled by her question. "Why? I don't care; I can afford to have as many children as I want."
Finally finding a way out, Emily said, "I have infertility."
Jackson was taken aback. "..."
"I was diagnosed in this hospital. I have a diagnosis certificate from the doctor. Do you want to see it?"
Jackson looked skeptical. "You have infertility, and you're happy about it?"
"Am I happy?" Emily rubbed her cheeks. "I'm not happy; I'm just explaining the situation to you. Your family must value heirs very much. Your parents wouldn't agree to let a woman with infertility into the family, right? So we're not suitable.
"Emily."
"Um, yes?" Emily was prepared to face his anger.
But Jackson just laughed. "You already told me about this last time. I don't mind having no children. My brother will take care of producing heirs, and I don't feel pressured. For me, being child-free is romantic." She already mentioned infertility?
Emily bit her lip; she couldn't remember mentioning it before.
"Is this the meal for your father?" Jackson took the lunchbox from her hands, opened the lid, and sniffed. "Not bad. I want to eat your cooking tomorrow."
Emily snatched the lunchbox back. "You're not sick; you can go buy whatever you want to eat."
"I want to eat this! Emily, if you don't bring me food tomorrow, don't bother coming to the next few car shows!"
"Can you be reasonable?" Emily retorted.
Jackson raised an eyebrow, wearing a "I am being reasonable" expression.
Ding-
The elevator arrived again.
Seizing the opportunity while he wasn't paying attention, Emily darted into the elevator, frantically pressing the close button. The elevator doors slowly closed. "I'll go deliver food to my father first. We'll talk about the rest later. I'll be on time for the next car show, don't worry. Bye!"
As the elevator doors finally closed, Emily breathed a sigh of relief.
How did she attract the attention of this troublesome man?
Arriving at the sixteenth floor, Bert had been waiting at the elevator door. Seeing her, he instantly breathed a sigh of relief. "Emily, you're finally here."
Emily was pulled aside by him. "Uncle, why couldn't I reach you on the phone these days?"
"It was the masked man; he told me to keep my phone off for a few days. Nathan had me arrested! If it weren't for him, you'd probably be visiting me in jail right now."
After asking for a while, Emily finally understood what had happened that day.
Sophia fell and got injured, Nathan took her to the hospital and called the police, accusing Bert of intentionally harming her. Mr. Satan spoke to the police, and Bert was released.
"He said to wait a few days. As long as Sophia didn't die, my charges wouldn't hold up. If Nathan insists on taking me to court, the worst I'll face is paying some money; I won't go to jail. The masked man made a call and had someone send A-type blood to the hospital. Sophia and the child's lives were saved, and I can finally breathe a sigh of relief."
So, Mr. Satan arranged the blood to save Sophia?Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
