Chapter 24
Chapter 24 Double Paycheck
"What?!" Wilson gasped, then quickly covered his mouth, not daring to show any flaws to Jackson.
Many renowned stylists had been rejected by Jackson, and Emily's situation might be even worse.
Wilson shook his head, sighing.
With Jackson on-site, everyone began to work efficiently. Apart from necessary communication, no one dared to say more than a word.
Emily first glanced at the makeup table and toolbox. The makeup products and tools were quite complete. The model girls sat in a row in front of the makeup mirrors, waiting for her makeup.
She felt like her back was on fire, scorching hot. Emily knew it was because Jackson's gaze felt like it could tear her apart.
As long as her makeup was slightly off, this man would probably instantly grab her by the collar and throw her out.
She rubbed her hands, took a deep breath, and forced herself to calm down.
These model girls all had good looks, and the difficulty of makeup wasn't particularly high.
Having learned a lot about makeup in recent days, combined with her previous experience, Emily's work started smoothly.
She used ivory foundation with highlighter to make the girls' skin look clearer. She kept the eye makeup simple. Instead of using false eyelashes, she adjusted the thickness and length of the girls' lashes with a mascara brush. Finally, she chose relatively light lip colors. When doing hairstyles, she lowered her head and pondered for a moment, making different types of buns and hair curls according to the different hair textures and lengths of the girls, then secured them with simple accessories. All done.
Emily glanced at the wall clock-it was exactly ten o'clock.
She suddenly realized that from the moment she finished the makeup for the first model girl until the last one, it had been almost an hour. Jackson couldn't have missed seeing the makeup of the model girls, could he? Why didn't he say anything?
Wilson had been paying close attention to Jackson's facial expressions. "Boss, what do you think? Are the makeup looks of these models acceptable?" Emily's heart raced.
Jackson remained silent for a long time, and the air in the entire backstage almost solidified.
"Heh," Jackson chuckled lightly. "I didn't expect you to have some skills."
Huh? Emily suddenly looked up. Was Jackson satisfied?
Wilson breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good, that's good. We can just make it to the opening ceremony. Girls, what are you waiting for? Get ready to go out!"
The model girls, urged by Wilson, went to their respective cars to make final preparations.
They were all wearing high heels and had to stand continuously for five hours, posing in different positions. Emily admired their professionalism.
At some point, Jackson had already walked up to her and snatched off her black-framed glasses. "You're nearsighted?"
"Huh?" Emily was stunned. "Um, a bit."
"Since you can make others look so good, why don't you know how to dress up yourself?" Jackson looked at her with disdain. "Look at what you're wearing? Aren't these clothes outdated by several years?"
Emily reached out and took back her glasses, putting them back on. "I'm a makeup artist, not a model, so I like to wear old clothes when I work."
"So, you'd rather be an ugly duckling?"
"I find it comfortable this way. The model girls wear tight skirts and high heels, have to walk carefully, and even worry about wardrobe malfunctions with every move. But that's their job, they have to do it to earn a living. I don't want to tire myself out like that." Wilson returned, poking his head in. "Boss, the opening ceremony is in five minutes. Are you going out to see?"
"Hmm."
Jackson glanced deeply at her before turning and walking out.
Emily finally breathed a sigh of relief, leisurely tidying up various brushes and cotton pads. Wilson approached and gave her a thumbs-up. "You're really great." "Hey!" Jackson's voice suddenly came from the doorway. He called Emily out directly.
Emily startled, raising her head to look at him.
Jackson had a smirk on his lips. "There are seven more shows after the car exhibition. I'll double your current pay for each show. Will you come to work?" Emily widened her eyes in pleasant surprise.
The current pay was ten thousand, so doubled, it would be twenty thousand! Seven shows meant one hundred and forty thousand!
Although Jackson had a bad temper, he was quite generous!
"Yes!" Emily nodded eagerly, like a chick pecking at grains. "I'll come!"
Jackson chuckled lightly. "Then pack up your makeup kit and come with me. Don't stand there foolishly. The models might need touch-ups when they come offstage."
"Oh, okay, I'm coming!" Emily promptly put all the makeup tools from the makeup table into her kit and followed Jackson out.
A staff member nudged Wilson's arm, smiling meaningfully. "Have you ever seen the boss being so nice to anyone?"
Wilson gasped. "No. This Emily is the luckiest one."
"It's not just luck," the staff member muttered. "I always feel like there's a story behind this."
Emily realized that earning this ten thousand wasn't so easy after all. After a day's work, her fingers were almost cramping, and by the time the car exhibition ended, it was already evening. She checked her phone and found five missed calls. She called back.
A magnetic and deep voice resonated in her ears, affectionate yet sweet. "Are you done with work? I'm waiting for you at the car exhibition entrance."
Hearing the familiar voice, Emily felt relieved. "Have you been waiting for long?"
"Not too long, just arrived."
"Oh, I'll tidy up and come right away."
Mr. Satan reported his car model and license plate number, and Emily noted them down before hanging up.
Suddenly, a voice came from behind her. "Boyfriend?"
Emily was startled. "Boss."
Jackson stood there with his hands in his pockets. "A woman like you actually has a boyfriend."
Emily was eager to go find Mr. Satan and didn't want to argue with him. "Boss, if there's nothing else, I'll go home now. I'll be on time for the next car exhibition." "Wait a minute-"
But Emily had already run out, though he grabbed her wrist and forcefully pulled her back.
Jackson removed her black-framed glasses with one swift motion, his rough fingers pinching her chin and lifting it up.

"Boss, you-"
Jackson's eyes instantly lit up. "I didn't see clearly just now. Turns out you look pretty good without your glasses."
