Chapter 20
Chapter 20
She pondered over what could have compelled her mother, who had been pampered since childhood, to run away from home. In a calm voice,
she asked Ashley to continue his report, masking her surprise.
Ashley thought to himself, "Indeed, this is my boss. Even in the face of adversity or crumbling circumstances, she remains composed." He
suppressed his own emotions and continued with his findings.
"Your mother's name is Matilda Gomez. She fled from home at the age of twenty. I have tried to uncover the reason behind her departure, but
it seems someone has been actively blocking any information about her."
"I also discovered that your grandfather, Mr. Gomez, has been searching for information about your mother, but someone has deliberately
hindered his efforts, as if they don't want him to know your mother's whereabouts."
"Furthermore, before your mother left the Gomez family, the last person she spoke to was your uncle, who is the biological child of the
adopted son within the Gomez family."
"According to rumors, your grandfather's brother, Grayson, has always desired to be the head of the Gomez family. He allegedly employed
deceitful tactics even when the former head of the Gomez family was still alive, in an attempt to secure the position for himself."
Despite Grayson's failure and her grandfather assuming control, he has persistently tried to groom his son as the future head of the Gomez
family, positioning him as the heir apparent.
Over the past two decades, someone has been actively erasing any traces of her mother's whereabouts. It's difficult to pinpoint the exact
culprit, but rumors suggest the involvement of her second grandfather and uncle.
Sandra absorbed all the information and instructed Ashley to gather comprehensive details on every member of the Gomez family, leaving no
stone unturned. She also wanted to uncover the true reason behind her mother's escape and identify the individuals who aided her during her
departure. It seemed implausible that her capable mother, as the sole heiress of the Gomez family, could have fled without assistance.
She sensed a connection between her mother's background and the caution her parents had exercised in preventing her from coming to City A,
despite their ability to protect her.
As Sandra was lost in her thoughts, she heard Ashley say, "Boss, I heard that you got married today to Levy Anthony. Should I investigate his
background?"
Sandra paused, wondering how Ashley had learned about her recent marriage, considering it had been less than a day. Yet, she also recognized
Ashley's competence as her trusted assistant, someone she had raised and relied on for years.
She replied, "There's no need for that. I don't believe he will pose any threat to me at this time. You can hold off on investigating his
background, at least for now."
Ashley was stunned by his boss's response. The cup in his hand slipped, crashing to the floor and shattering into pieces. "This is the first time
Sandra Smith has allowed someone to be by her side without investigating their background," he thought to himself. Even her parents had
instilled fear in her.
"Could it be that she has fallen in love with this man she just met and forgotten about her own identity?" Ashley pondered, although he knew
his boss well enough to understand that love was the last thing on her mind.
"What could be the reason then? Is it possible that the other party is not what the world perceives him to be and is willing to show his true self
to her, giving him a chance to prove himself?" Ashley wondered, intrigued by the mystery that seemed to have captured his boss's attention to
the point of defying her own taboos.
Before he could recover from his shock, he heard Sandra say, "If there's nothing else, I will end the call. Only contact me if it's something
important. It won't be appropriate for you to reach me from now on, as I will be living with the Anthony family." Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
She hung up, leaving a brief moment of silence. Sandra contemplated all the information Ashley had shared about her mother. Was this the
reason her parents had been willing to let her be raised by others? And what about her father? There had to be a reason for his actions as well.
He was wealthy and capable, able to distance himself from the Smith family whenever he desired. In fact, with his strength and power, he
could dismantle the Smith group entirely. So why hadn't he severed ties with the Smith family? Sandra was certain that her father was
unaware of her mother's true identity as the only daughter and child of the Gomez family.
She had observed the shock in his face and eyes when her mother was revealed as the founder and owner of the Brovard restaurants and
hotels. Though he quickly suppressed his reaction, Sandra noticed it nonetheless.
Deep down in her heart, she knew that her parents loved her. They always made it a point to spend the end of the year with her in the village
to strengthen their bond as a family. They never missed her school events and would call her every day without fail.
