Chapter 48
For three whole days, there was no news about Lola.
Dominick and Ethan had nearly turned the city upside down in their search for her but to no avail.
Day and night, they persisted without a moment’s rest, well aware that every second counted.
They had mobilized everyone they could, with two cell phones laid out on the table before them. They watched these phones intently, hoping for any hope.
But it had been a long time, and there was still no message on either of the phones.
“Elhan,
you should rest for a bit. I keep watch. There’s no use both of us waiting here,” Dominick suggested, his voice hoarse from days of strain.
Ethan’s eyes, usually bright and beautiful, were now bloodshot, giving him the look of a tyrant
“No need.
“Layla hasn’t been found yet. I’m not in the mood to rest. You go ahead.”
The two men, who initially clashed fists and kicks, could now sit together and talk calmly.
They both understood clearly that working together made finding Lola a bit easier.
“She’s a pi
a girl alone in this city, with no one else to turn to but you. Where could she possibly go?”
I suspect she was taken,” Ethan pondered, voicing his fear that Lola might have been taken against her will.
If she had left on her own, they would have heard something by now.
Dominick’s expression darkened as he recounted, “Lola’s room was a mess, with broken glass and blood everywhere. It looked like she was in a state of self–harm when she disappeared.
“I think that is fine. But every piece of glass was bloodstained. When Lola self–harms, she uses a single piece to cut herself. Why would every piece be
covered in blood?”
Ethan’s brow furrowed. “Are you suggesting someone staged her disappearance to look like self– harm?”
“It’s a possibility we can’t ignore.”
After searching for three days with no news, Dominick couldn’t help but consider other possibilities.
“Henry’s checking the neighboring cities, but so far, there’s nothing”
Ethan was aware that Dominick had used all his connections.
He had done the same,
Dominick’s actions these past few days improved Ethan’s opinion of him.
Once, Dominick had hurt Lola due to a misunderstanding, but now he was trying his best to make amends. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
While Ethan wasn’t particularly fond of Dominick, he recognized that they were on the same side for Lola’s sake.
“Your point makes sense. My men have started checking all the hotels in the city.
Dominick nodded without saying more.
But a
been angry when facing this man, who was very close to Lola.
tseeing Ethan losing sleep over Lola, he couldn’t find it in himself to dislike him anymore.
After all, their intentions were the same. They both wanted what was best for Lola,
The room fell silent again. They were preoccupied with their thoughts but did not speak further.
“Why haven’t y
you two rested yet? Til keep watch here. You both need to rest!”
Heather was startled by their appearance when she walked in. They were pale, their eyes bloodshot, which was quite frightening
“Heather, it’s okay.” Ethan had started calling her in a more polite tone.
After much thought, he felt that any other title would be too impersonal. Considering Heather was Dominick’s mother and they were no longer enemies, it was only respectful to address her properly.
“Listen, I made soup for both of you. Have some, and then go to bed!”
Heather’s heart ached for them. Though she was worried about Lola, continuing like this wasn’t a solution. It was also likely to wear down their health.
“Dom, you’ve always had a weak stomach. I’ve prepared a special soup to help with that Eat up and get some rest. Don’t worry. If there’s any news, I’ll inform you right away.”
Heather said, her concern evident in her eyes, a mother’s care impossible to hide.
Dominick felt a pang in his heart, feeling somewhat guilty for his mother’s concern.
Now distanced from the cold and heartless Sinclair family, he wasn’t alone anym
anymore. He had his mother
Her care for her was pure and simple.
“Okay.”
After a moment of silence, Dominick agreed.
With Lola missing, he couldn’t let his mother worry about him too.
“Ethan, the same goes for you. I’ve made the soup you like. Have same.
“I’m worried about Ms. Lewis too, but not eating or sleeping won’t help. It’ll only ruin your health. Who will continue searching for Ms. Lewis if you’re num
down?”
Finally, Heather’s earnest persuasion worked, and they made their way to the dining room.
Since Lola’s disappearance, Dominick had been staying at Ethan’s place.
After having the soup, he rested in Ethan’s room while Ethan took the couch.
Seeing the two, once at odds, now peacefully coexisting made Heather smile.
One was her son, and the other, Ethan, had been close to her for some time. Both were dear to her. She felt nothing could be better if they could continge to get along well.
“Jessica is dead. Just gone like that. What do the police say? Was it really an accident? Frank was shocked to hear the news
“They say it was an accident, but who knows? Her death wasn’t meaningless, though. I’ve found out Dominick’s location now.”
