Chapter 545 Can’t Fulfill Your Wish This Time
Damien stood up, went over to the sofa, and lit a cigarette.
Clarissa frowned and waved a hand to disperse the smoke. “How many times have I told you to stop
smoking? You never listen to me.”
“Are you nagging at me?” He narrowed his eyes at her.
“Whatever. There are plenty of people who get lung cancer from smoking, anyway. Also, your teeth will
turn yellow.” She slowly got dressed.
Damien stubbed out the cigarette. He looked like he wasn’t too attached to smoking, but Clarissa knew
it wasn’t that easy for regular smokers to stop. They craved nicotine, and they generally wouldn’t be
able to stop themselves from smoking. Damien didn’t seem to be like that, though. Instead of being
controlled by the cigarettes, he seemed to be the one controlling them.
People always said that those who were truly powerful wouldn’t allow themselves to fall prey to
addiction. It was obvious he was like that.
Why couldn’t he control his sex addiction, then?
“Since it’s so easy for you to stop smoking, why can’t you do something about your addiction to sex?”
Clarissa was suddenly interested in this. She sat on the bed and looked at him.
“Why would I want to swear off a great thing?”
“Then…” She narrowed her eyes. “I guess that means you didn’t abstain from it for the three years that
I was away.”
Damien looked at her like she was his prey. “What, are you checking up on me? I abstained, alright!”
She sat up straight. “Didn’t you say you wouldn’t swear it off?”
“I can’t swear it off now. Are you happy to hear that? Do you have any more questions?”
Clarissa lay down again and pulled the quilt over her head. For some inexplicable reason, her heart
was racing. She knew he never lied—he felt that lying was beyond him.
When she finally pulled the quilt down, she was shocked. Damien was sitting right next to her.
He stroked her face. “Looks like I won’t be able to fulfill your wish this time.”
“Why?” She didn’t really know what he was referring to.
“Ray just called and told me to go back to Genovia for a board meeting.”
“When are you leaving?” She suddenly felt anxious. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Today.”
“What?!” She didn’t expect him to have to leave so soon.
“Yeah. Neil and I will leave after you go to work.”
Clarissa gritted her teeth. She didn’t know whether she could see him again before her visit to Lotharia.
She got out of bed and wrapped her arms around Damien from behind. She pressed her face to his
warm back, feeling touched that he hadn’t slept with anyone else during their time apart.
In truth, they hadn’t gotten together because of mutual affection. She didn’t know why he had given up
his freedom for the sake of a contractual marriage.
Damien turned to look at her. “What’s wrong? You don’t want Neil to leave?”
“No, I don’t want you to leave.”
He chuckled. “Thanks for that. Alright, Neil should be awake by now. You should return to the
university.”
Clarissa felt disappointed at having to leave him so abruptly.
After eating the breakfast that Damien prepared, she went back to the university.
On the way, she sent Bethany a WhatsApp message.
Clarissa: [Are you awake? Should I get you anything from the canteen?]
Bethany: [Please, it’s almost 12:00 p.m. Why would I still be asleep at this hour? I haven’t had lunch,
though, so please get me some pork chops, chicken nuggets, sausages, and pasta. I also want some
snacks. Thanks!]
When Clarissa got home, her arms full, she saw Bethany curled up on the bed with the quilt wrapped
around her. She had some tissues in her hand, and she was watching a soap opera, looking tearful.
