How I Remarry My Ex-Wife by Alvin Humphre

Chapter 56

Chapter 56

Just as she was about to leave, Jonah seemed to think of something and warned Whitney.

Whitney was confused. “What do you mean?”

Jonah licked his lips as if he was unsure of how to say it and then spoke slowly. “I don’t think he has pure intentions toward you.”

Hearing this, Whitney smiled helplessly. “Don’t worry about it. Even if Mr. Hall does have such intentions, I won’t be tempted. I just want to focus on my work for now. I’m not interested in dating anyone.”

The second her words came out, Jonah paused. He seemed to want to say something else, but in the end, he just bid her goodbye and left.

Inside the elevator, Jonah gave himself a hard slap. He almost revealed the secret that had been hidden in his heart for years. However, Whitney’s remark about having no interest in romance was like pouring cold water on the flame that had just ignited in his heart.

He didn’t know when he would have the courage to do it again next time.

In the studio, Whitney quickly washed up and sat down at her desk. It wasn’t until late at night that she finally lay down..

But as she closed her eyes, her mind was filled with memories of what the Mackenzie family had done to her.

When the alarm clock rang the following day, Whitney felt dizzy and light–headed as if she had not slept all night. She felt incredibly uncomfortable.

She glanced ather memo, which was the first thing she did when she got to the office.

When she saw Roland’s name written on the memo, she remembered that she had planned to call him that day and talk to him about the charity event.

But after placing her finger on the dial button, Whitney withdrew it.

If there had been no plagiarism incident, everything would have gone smoothly, and the charity event could have been carried out as scheduled.

However, for the entire studio to figure out and come up with new designs in a week was a challenge for them. It was a challenge that was tough to accomplish.

If the project could not be completed on schedule, or if the outcome was unsatisfactory, not only would the charity event be affected, but even her studio that she had worked hard for would face closure.

The thought of how the studio might end up made Whitney’s heart ache. She looked around her office, feeling a little reluctant.

However, there was no time for her to be sentimental or upset. She had to pull herself together and do her best regardless of the outcome.

Just then, her phone rang. Whitney looked at the caller’s name, and it was Roland.

However, Whitney didn’t want to answer. After all, she was the one who had broken her promise first, and she truly didn’t know how to face Roland.

However, thinking that she would have to face this sooner or later and the fact that Roland had been honest with her, she felt that she shouldn’t hide anything from him.

Whitney picked up his call, thinking that Roland would ask about the charity event, but unexpectedly, he didn’t.

“Winnie, how’s your studio? Is everything okay?” Roland’s voice sounded the same as before. It carried traces of time and a tone of concern, truly resembling a father caring about his daughter,

“Mr. Atkins, everything’s fine. It’s just that I have been busy with company matters these days, and the charity event might have to be postponed. I’m really sorry about that,” said Whitney.

The more Roland showed concern, the guiltier she felt.

“Girl, I’m sure you can handle this well. As for the charity event, we can talk about it later. No hurry,” Roland said.

In truth, Whitney could tell that he was upset, but perhaps he had grown accustomed to it. Otherwise, he would have collapsed long ago.

At the same time, she was also touched by Roland’s words. Compared to him, her issue was nothing. Yet, Roland turned around and comforted herself, making her feel ashamed.

At that moment, Whitney had made a decision. The charity event must go on regardless of the future of her studio. Nothing should hinder the progress of the charity event, even if she had to fund it herself at last.

nly for Roland but also for the thousands of abducted children and countless families.

This was not only

“Mr. Atkins, thank you. I still want to talk to you about the charity event. Let’s moet up at your shop in half an hour,” Whitney said.

“Girl, you carry on with your work. The company matters more. It’s really not urgent.” Roland wanted to decline, but Whitney didn’t give him a chance. She said goodbye to him and hung up.

Whitney drove all the way north toward Roland’s shop, but just halfway through the journey, her car suddenly stalled.

Whitney tried starting the engine a few more times, still to no avail.

She frowned, wondering if there was something wrong with the car. Then she got out of the car to investigate.

ne with it.

However, Whitney couldn’t understand it. She checked her car all around and found nothing wrong

She was concentrating on the car to the extent that she was oblivious to another car stopping not far away. A woman stepped out of the car gracefully and looked at Whitney, her eyes filled with malice and mockery.

Recalling the time when Whitney had been the center of attention at the Gibson manor, Quincey felt extremely irritated.

Ever since Whitney reappeared, everything seemed to have changed and revolved around Whitney, which irked Quincey.

Now, Whitney’s bad luck had struck. The design that Whitney’s studio submitted to Indigox Corporation was accused of plagiarism, and it had been spread throughout the industry.

It would be nearly impossible for Whitney to turn the tables now.

Quincey walked toward Whitney, smiling. She wanted to see how long Whitney could lord over her.

Oh, it’s you, Whitney. What happened? Is the car broken down?” Quincey said with a sarcastic tone. NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.

When Whitney looked up and saw the woman in front of her, her expression Instantly turned cold. Not wanting to talk to the woman, Whitney picked up the phone silently and proceeded to call a taxi.

“What’s the matter? Are you down and out? Don’t you have a car? Well, I can give you a ride. I’ve got nothing going on anyway.Quincey continued.

“Stop your charade. Your pretense disgusts me,” Whitney retorted coldly.

She cursed inwardly, “What a bummer! Not only did the car break down, but I also ran into this woman!

“Who are you calling disgusting?” Quincey pointed at Whitney, flushed with anger.

“I’m calling whoever deserves it!” Whitney slapped Quincey’s hand away. “And let me warn you, if you stick out your finger again, I’ll break

them!”

Hearing Whitney’s words, Quincey retreated with visible fear.

But in a split second, a hint of sarcasm appeared on her face. Quincey gloated, “You’re just being stubborn. You won’t be in the limelight for long anyway. I can’t be bothered to be petty with people like you.”

“After all, some people rely on plagiarism and men to climb up the ladder. I could never learn that.” As Quincey spoke, she covered her mouth and laughed.

“Oh really? I think you have a brighter future than me. After all, you have such great acting skills. No need to waste them!” retorted Whitney.

“That’s for sure…” Quincey suddenly reacted, and her previously smiling face instantly darkened.

She added, “Whitney, don’t put on airs. Do you think those men are sincere to you? Do you really think you are that capable? You’re just their plaything. When they get tired of you-”

Before Quincey could finish her sentence, a stinging slap came on her cheek, and she stood frozen in place.
