Chapter 11
“Dean!”
The startled voice made him back off from the door line he was leaning on. He slowly straightens himself and looked over at the open door. Seeing Sara’s mother always brought along a warm tightening in his chest. He adored the woman, mostly because she was so like Sara but a small part of him did love the woman who actually treated him like a son.
He gave her a side hug willingly enough, the smell of chocolate cake hit his nose making him smirk for it was such a sweet smell, quiet opposite to her daughter who had a dark, addicting scent.
She had seemed to grew older since the last time he saw her. The grey strikes in her hair were increasing and the smile lines have gotten more prominent. Yet, he knew she have been very strong just like Sara was.All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Why didn’t you come inside last night?” The demand came in a scold but the twinkle in her eyes warmed him once again.
“Sara…” He trailed off.
A flash of understanding came over her face and she smirked and at that second, he felt like she was laughing at his desperation. Without a word, she turned to leave, leaving the door open for him to enter.
“That is girl is as dumb as her father.” He heard her murmur under her breath and he was amused.
But his amusement soon turned into worry and anger. He wasn’t able to sleep the whole night just thinking if she was mad or angry or worse of all, if she hated him. He didn’t lie when he said he really didn’t care but it would be easier if she didn’t hate him for it. He really didn’t want her to hate him for what he was because this was what he was. He had always meant to have her, possess and own her. She never had a choice.
He wondered around the lounge; every corner of the house was echoing with her laughter from his memories. He noticed the change of photographs in the frames and it stilled him for a second. Every frame which used to hold picture of his and Sara was exchanged by family photos.
Once again, the stabbing pain hit him yet he couldn’t bring himself to feel guilty of what he did. But he did realize all over again that he still had no idea how much he had hurt her from what he did.
“You noticed.”
He didn’t have to turn to recognize the voice of Jamie, Sara’s younger brother. He felt him stand beside him but he still couldn’t get himself to move or take his eyes away from those exchanged photos.
“You left a mess behind, Dean. But I trust that it was better to leave that mess rather then what would have become if you would have stayed.”
Dean dropped his eyes.
Jamie seemed to have gotten even more smarter.
“Does she really hate me?” Dean asked. His voice was the same, blank of any emotion but inside, he felt like a pathetic child waiting for the worst.
“Sis is pretty dumb but she doesn’t lack common sense. I think in her own way, she is in conflict with herself too. But you need to be patient, Dean. She waited months for you to contact her, telling excuses for you, trying to assure herself that you won’t leave her at least. In fact, if I even loved my sister a little, I would have killed you the second I found out you were here but I know you were trying to protect her but I will slaughter you if you tried to take her unwillingly. She was so hurt by being abandoned by you that she wasn’t even able to feel much when dad passed away.”
Dean tried not to flinch as the images from a year ago flashed in his mind like a fucking record. The fact that he was standing so close to her that he could see the small blankness of her eyes. He had run towards her, losing his patience but was saved by his own men. He had almost forgot the whole fucking reason to stay away from her. Now, remembering her face- it had seemed to age a little. There was a faint matureness on her face, the smile she gave was controlled like she was afraid to give away too much.
“Why the hell are you here?”
The angry kitten like growl made them turn to face Sara who was looking frustrated.
God, she took his breath away.
Looking at her from head to toe, he didn’t notice Jamie slipped away from the room.
“Go change.” He ordered.
“Excuse me!” Sara raised her eyebrow in challenge and he almost attacked her then and there.
“Change, I can make out your red bra.” He replied with a smirk, unmoved by her attack posture.
The blush came as he had expected and as he laughed, throwing his head back- Sara raced back upstairs, shouting all kind of names to him.
He had not actually seen the bra except the strap which was displayed from her shirt but that crop top was a little too revealing. No way she was going that way in front of any other male, unless that male had black eyes, black hair and it is him.
He made his way towards the kitchen, the smell of bacon and eggs seemed to fill the whole house. Entering he saw Britney putting the table for two and he smiled at the thousand memories which invaded his mind seeing the small table set with food.
He hadn’t realized he lost focus till someone kicked his leg from behind and he was just about to punch that person till he saw it was just Sara, this time in a sleeveless white cotton shirt.
Couldn’t he snatch her and hide her from every eye except his own?
“C’mon honey, breakfast is ready. It’s been so long since Dean had breakfast with you.” Britney tried to lighten the atmosphere but her face fell when her daughters next words were, “Not long enough.”
He quietly took a seat and put some scrambled eggs and bacons in his plate.
Sara took a seat and he watched as she drowned a glass of orange juice and then started munching on a chocolate chip muffin watching him with her gorgeous glaring eyes. He could swear she was killing him in her head and he was loving it.
“Why are you here?” The question came out of nowhere.
Swallowing the bite, taking his time doing so, he replied, “I thought we could go to school together.”
“Together? You say it like you ar—what?! What?!” The loud demand just made her look more tempting. He had noticed that, she had become more vocal with her thoughts. Like she needs to get them out of her mind to her tongue.
“I left before I could graduate so I had decided to finish school.”
“I didn’t know shooting people and beating the shit out of them required schooling.”
He watched the way the words left her mouth; a humorless smile made her look suddenly dangerous. She has gotten more cunning with her tongue. God, that mouth.
Focus!
Leaning forward so he could get a sniff of her scent he said quietly, “You should be watching that mouth of yours, as much as I would love to get the repeat of last time- same can’t be said for you. At least not yet.”
She froze for a second and he forgot to breathe when a blush made its way to her cheeks the second time already. But then her eyes turned hard and dropping them from his gaze, she murmured, “I go with June so go by yourself.”
“Oh, I called her and made her very clear that I would be the one going with you.”
He knew the casualty of his words were going to piss her off and it did. He smirked as she clutched her knuckles and took few deep breaths.
