Chapter 27
After Xavier was done with his meal, he watched Vanessa pack the plates up and got them wrapped back again.
He relaxed on his chair staring at the calm lady as she was in a hurry to leave. It’s been a long time since he ate such a delicious meal like the one he took.
Anyways, Tracy is trying her best to make the meals delicious and they are too, but it can never be compared with that of Vanessa.
He can’t say anything about Lilian, because since they met he hasn’t had a meal prepared by her. She keeps giving one excuse or the other each time he demands to eat her meal.
Not even her presence in his house pushed Lilian to the kitchen, she had insisted on not preparing a meal since Tracy can do that.
This is one of the reasons he rejected her meal, he wants a meal prepared by Vanessa not her. If she minds seeing him taste her meal, then she has to do that for his children too, not because of Vanessa’s presence.NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
“I’m about to leave, Mr. Xavier.” Vanessa’s voice drew him out of his thoughts.
He knitted his eyebrows and smiled at her. “It’s okay then, thank you so much. I’ll call my driver to come to drop you off.”
She smiled and shook her head. “You don’t need to worry about the driver, I’ll board a cab that will take me home.”
“He’s already here, once you step out of this building you’ll find him parked at a side,” Xavier commented.
She clutched the package and faced him. “Alright then, I need to make some sales in my bakery. See you when you’re back home.”
Xavier gripped her palm, he couldn’t help but get on his feet.
“You can’t just leave that way…”
Vanessa kept staring at him, just to get what she meant by that statement.
For some seconds, Xavier wasn’t saying a word again and so she decided to break the silence between them.
But before she could say a word to him, she felt something so soft and succulent on her forehead. He kissed her twice and then stared into her eyes.
“Take good care of yourself and Chloe, and please don’t quarrel with Lilian for any reason, okay.” He remarked while gripping her palm.
She nodded and took a deep swallow, at that point Vanessa was dumb… she couldn’t believe the young man placed a kiss on her forehead.
“Goodbye, Mr. Xavier.” She said at last with her bent low. She was blushing and scared of staring back at him.
Xavier watched her dash out of the office without taking a glance backward, he pouted his lips while seating at the edge of his table.
He couldn’t tell what was wrong with him, then strange feelings developed in him at the moment that he can’t explain how it began.
But if only he can leave everything about Vanessa off his mind in order not to cause quarrels with Lilian or bully Vanessa for she knows nothing about him, he would love it most.
The lady isn’t doing any harm to him, and neither is she pissing Lilian off herself. Rather, he had been the one creating all scenes just because Vanessa is that type of woman she wants and loves to be with.
But it isn’t easy for him, since Lilian is already attached to his life and it isn’t so easy to get her out. Lilian will never be like Vanessa and that’s one thing he desires but is unable to get.
While Lilian walked through the corridor to the stairs, the workers affixed their eyes on her.
She was so shy to look up to them that she felt to just disappear from their sight but couldn’t.
There was a great murmuring in the hallway she passed through to get to the door, everyone was so convinced that she was the wife of the boss.
Males and females couldn’t keep their eyes off her, many souls were happy to set their eyes on such a lady that is chosen by their boss, while some developed that deep hatred, envy, and jealousy for her.
While they are in the company working their asses off and doing everything just for him to notice and welcome them, he doesn’t have time for them instead for a woman outside the company.
“She got lunch for him, and I love that…” one of the workers announced.
“Yeah! No man will ever resist such a beautiful lady with a curvy shape like her…” another added immediately.
They all murmured within them while working.
Vanessa stepped out of the building and alerted the driver who had been waiting for her.
They drove off from the compound immediately and she was dropped at Xavier’s residence. She got down, having in mind to go wash the dishes and leave for her bakery immediately.
Vanessa stepped into the sitting room but couldn’t find Lilian as she had thought, so she made her way to the kitchen and loosened the package.
While she was so busy washing the dishes, familiar footsteps approached her. She knew it was Lilian, no need to be told.
“Welcome, the only woman striving to take my fiancee away from me.” Lilian referred to her.
She didn’t say a word, all her mind was affixed with what she was doing, or rather, Xavier’s warning kept ringing in her ear.
He had pleaded with her not to quarrel with Lilian for any reason, and that’s just what she’s obeying.
She only glanced at her foot and looked off again.
“Now Miss Vanessa, tell me the sort of spell you used on Xavier that he rejected my meal?” Lilian queried her.
She didn’t answer that question, it’s damn meaningless too.
Lilian tapped her shoulder. “I’m talking to you young lady, or aren’t you hearing my voice. I just hate to be ignored.”
“Just let me be Lilian, when you pushed me out of the kitchen I didn’t question you. I left to go to my bakery and you prepared the meal yourself… isn’t it?” Vanessa questioned her.
She sniffed, staring at the ceiling. “Oh yes! I prepared the meal myself, but why did you spy on him not to accept it? Isn’t he my fiance any longer?”
“I didn’t speak with Xavier immediately after I left here, the only time I spoke with him was the moment you arrived at his office and he called me. I believe you were there too.” She narrated.
Lilian heaved a big sigh of relief, she wasn’t that relieved though… because the anger in her was so raw that it can take any action towards Vanessa at the moment.
Vanessa wasn’t sparing her a glance, she was so busy drying the wet dish and then keeping it in its position.
“I need to tell you this Vanessa, in the name of the God you serve please grant me this favor.” Lilian drew Vanessa’s attention.
She turned to face her at last. “Tell me, what’s that?”
“Hope you won’t fall under my hands?”
Vanessa stared at her for a moment. “It depends…”
“Leave this home completely and I’ll pay you in huge, Vanessa. Just tell me the amount of money you want and I’ll give it to you, but please keep your feet away from this abode.” Lilian stated.
Vanessa only stared at her, she couldn’t believe the lady wanted her out of the house by all means.
Everything about Chloe hit her mind, she can’t do this to the little girl. If she ever leaves just that way, it might lead to many negative things which wouldn’t have taken place because of her presence.
Lilian will have the opportunity to treat them like she wants, she will maltreat them to the last. She shook her head at that thought… It’s true.
If she ever leaves, Xavier won’t take it with her. She shivered on inventing the kiss he placed on her forehead, she loved it so much and won’t love to wound his heart because of Lilian.
No amount of money can buy happiness, besides, Xavier is paying her well alongside the earnings she gets from her bakery.
She needs nothing else from Lilian again, taking the money and resigning from work will do much more harm to her than good.
If not for any other one, but the sake of Chloe. She’s so sure that the little girl won’t survive it if she leaves. Xavier has always commented on her presence doing much good to the little girl.
“I’m so sorry Lilian, but I can’t accept such an offer. You can invest in so many other things with the money.” She stated.
Lilian smiled inwardly, she thought of what the lady had in thought.
“Seems like I’ll give you more time to think about it because this is an option for you to choose. When you get home, sit and think deeply about it… I’ll be waiting for a response by tomorrow or any trash you get from me.” Lilian declared and left the kitchen.
Vanessa watched her leave the kitchen, she wondered about the trash she was talking about.
Meanwhile, she needs to have a second thought about the offer.
