Dear Contract Wife, You Are Mine

Chapter 40

May Walter POV

The sound of the knock on my door from outside caught my attention, and I paused brushing my teeth. I heard the knock a few times before the sound of door opening and closing followed suit. I needed no one to tell me that the person was Miles since he was the only one living here aside from his brother who of course must be at the hospital as usual by this time.

“Coming…” I found Miles seated on the bed when I walked inside. He stood up and smiled at me.

“Good morning, wife,”

“Hmm… Good morning. You are ready for office already? I guess I woke up late,” I muttered the last part.

“How are you feeling now?”Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

“I’m much better. Uhm… I’m not going to take much time in the…”

“You don’t have to worry about coming with me to the office today. I got a secretary, and also an assistant, so you can just rest at home since you are not feeling too well,” He tucked his hands inside his pockets, looking straight at me.

“Oh!” I only mouthed, many thoughts flashed through my mind in split seconds. Did he get a female secretary and assistant this time again? Is she beautiful? Will he fall in love with her in my place?

“I made breakfast already. It’s on the dining table. Make sure you take your medication after you finish eating…” He paused, then covered the distance between us, and cupped my cheek in his palm gently, his eyes piercing into mine.

“Call me if you need anything, ok?” His voice sounded husky and of course sexy.

“Hmm,” I managed to nod my head.

“Once I’m done taking care of things over there, I’ll come back to you, ok?” He hushed as he leaned forward like he wanted to kiss me. Our faces were just inches apart with his breath fanning my face.

“Hmm,” Again, I managed to nod my head. Wait! I forgot to breath!

“See ya,” My heart froze in my chest when he kissed my cheek briefly and pulled away. He smiled at me one more time before he finally walked out of my room, while I was left standing there like a log of wood, staring into space breathlessly.

“That was…” I paused and touched my cheek as a smile formed on my lips. I literally felt butterflies in my stomach.

“That was… Crazy…” I muttered while walking into the bathroom.

As much as I wasn’t happy about staying back at home knowing that I would miss Miles so much later and also worried about who he would be working with, a part of me was grateful that I would have time to go see Mr. Williams for the DNA test that I suggested.

‘Are you sure about this, May?’ Speaking of DNA, I didn’t know if I was ready to do this. I could just tell him that I wasn’t interested, right? I mean, he rejected me, asked my Mom to get rid of me if not that she kept me, so why the fuck was he coming back to me now?

“You should just find out the truth about the whole thing. You need to find out if he was lying or not. There’s no harm in doing that,” I told myself as I grabbed a towel and tied it around my chest before walking back into my room. I met my phone screen light on with a message on the screen.

‘Hi! It’s me, your Dad. I’ll pick you up by 9am’ A scoff tore through my throat as I read through the text. ‘Dad’? What right does he have to call me that?

‘You are not my Dad. I’ve not acknowledged that yet because I don’t even know if you are saying the truth. You don’t have to pick me up. Send me the address of the place, and I will meet you there’ I clicked on ‘send’ without reading through it again once I was done typing the message.

‘Alright’ Came his reply before I finally dropped my phone and proceeded to get dressed.

No matter how I thought about this, it still didn’t make sense for me to think that he was probably lying. I mean, he was a successful businessman known around the world, so why would he lie to a commoner like myself?

“It doesn’t matter,” I whispered as I checked myself out in the mirror one more time before I stepped out of my room. I had no appetite for breakfast, but I knew leaving the house without eating wouldn’t be good for my baby and my health, so I had to stop by the dining room before leaving after after I ate the white rice and stew Miles made.

“St. Wellington medical center,” I said to the taxi whom I just stopped.

“Thirty bucks,” The young man in his early forties replied to me, and I hopped in the backseat without hesitation.

We arrived twenty minutes later, and there was his bodyguard from that day, probably waiting for me at the parking lot.

“You are here, Ms… This way. Boss is waiting for you,” He uttered politely before leading me into the tall hospital building.

Mr. Williams was sitting along the walkway when we walked inside. He rose to his feet and smiled as soon as he saw me.

“You are here…”

“I don’t have all the time in the world. Let’s get down to business,” I shouldn’t be rude because he was an elderly man aside from his claim to be my Dad, but I couldn’t help it. The thought of him as my Dad was making my skin crawl. Recalling his confession to me made his presence irritates me a lot. I would stop if it was something I could help.

“Yes… This way,” He led the way while I trailed behind him. We arrived at the doctor’s office in less than two minutes, and we were ushered in.

“It’s good to see you, Mr. Williams,” The doctor who looked like he was in his late forties, seemed to be quite familiar with the man judging from the way he welcomed him. Of course, Mr. Williams would be known very much by people, so I wasn’t surprised.

“Hi, Ms. It’s nice to meet you,” The man turned to me and smiled while extending his hand for a handshake, but I just bowed my head slightly, leaving his hand hanging.

“Uhm… Let’s cut to the chase,” He laughed dryly after he sat down.

“Mr. Williams… The DNA test result will be ready in five days at least. Is that fine with you?”

Mr. Williams looked at me probably to get my opinion. Why was he looking at me when he was the one that the doctor asked a question. Well, I just shrugged since I had nothing to say.

“Yes, doc. It’s fine with us,”

“Then I’ll have to take your blood samples for it. Please come with me,” The doctor stood up and led the way out of his office while we followed him.

“Don’t contact me until the test result is ready,” I stated coldly after we stepped out of the room where our blood samples were taken earlier by the doctor.

“Hmm… I’ll do that. You can’t leave alone. I’ll have my bodyguard drop you off at home,”

“That’s why there are cabs on the road. I can easily get one. Excuse me,” I walked out on Mr. Williams and headed to the exit door…
