Chapter 41
William frowned when he noticed Beatrice's expression. He was expecting her to throw herself into his arms with a wide smile on her face. "What's the matter, sweetie? What upset you? Didn't you say you were going to the party and planning on having the spotlight on Sophia? Didn't it work out? Did something go wrong?" He asked. Of course he was aware of the party the Will were throwing tonight because Beatrice had told him about this morning.
"Nothing happened." Beatrice said in a soft voice as she lowered her head. Ever since Rose arrived back in the country, she hadn't told William about it even though they speak to each other everyday. But now that he has returned, she doesn't know how he'd react now if Seeing that his wife was hesitating to tell him something, William grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the couch and sat her down.
she told him.
"Sweetie, what's wrong with you? Did anyone annoyed you today? Tell me, I will have that person come begging to you." William asked in a worried tone as he still grabbed Beatrice's hand.
"Promise, you wouldn't get mad at me if I tell you?" Beatrice asked.
"Why would I get mad at you? Tell me what's wrong?" William shook his head and promised her.
If Rose was witnessing this scene she would have called William a big fool.
Beatrice looked at William for a few seconds before deciding to talk. "William, you see, I hadn't told you something while you were away for your business trip. About a week ago, I wasn't aware of it until I got home and the maids informed me that Roseline was around." She finally said, raising her head to look at William.
A frown appeared on William's face when he heard his wife. "Roseline? Which Roseline are you talking about?" He asked, confused about what Beatrice was talking about.
"Which other Roseline do you know? Of course, it's your eldest daughter." Beatrice replied with a pouting face.
"What? Roseline is around?! When and why didn't you let me know about it and we spoke to each other?" William yelled in surprise.
"Honey, you promised not to get angry and you're yelling at me already." Beatrice looked at William with teary eyes.
The moment William saw Beatrice's teary face, he calmed down instantly and grabbed her hand. "I'm sorry, darling. I wasn't yelling at you, I was just surprised to hear that Rose is around. But why didn't you let me know?" He quickly changed his tone into a softer tone. "Well, I didn't let you because I wanted to build a bond with her before you arrived. And I wanted to use her visit as a surprise for you but it didn't go as planned." Beatrice replied as she lowered her head again.
"Is that why you were looking like that when I arrived? Is there something else bothering you?" William asked, noticing that Beatrice still doesn't look happy." You can tell if there is more, I won't get angry." He added.
Beatrice threw herself into his arms, shook her head sulkily, and complained, "It's your daughter! I tried to build a connection between us, but it's not working. I don't know what to do with her anymore."
William's face was distorted in anger
when he heard his wife,but
swallowed back his anger. 'How could Rose make his wife like this when he wasn't around." "Calm. down Beatrice. Let's talk about this tomorrow when I see her. For now, please don't cry anymore and let's go inside." He consoled Beatrice as he pulled her up from the couch and led inside.
Rose, who was oblivious to what was going on downstairs, was lying comfortably on her bed. She had a painful expression on her face as sweat dripped down her face, indicating that she was having a bad dream. *********The next morning***********
Rose had just taken her bath and changed into a simple dress that she can find in her walk-in wardrobe. She had just finished tying her long hair into a low ponytail and was
busy braiding the rest of her hair et
When she was still studying abroad, she had been too lazy and busy to cut her off regularly except for the time her roommate forcefully dragged her to trim it at the salon, that is why she had this extremely long hair. Besides, there was another reason why she didn't cut off her
hair.
It was at the same moment, someone knocked on her door. The door pushed open after she answered and Paige walked into the room.
"Good morning, young Miss." Paige greeted after closing the door behind her.
"Good morning, Aunty." Rose briefly smiled at Paige through the mirror that was placed on the dressing table where she was sitting.
Noticing that Rose was having a hard time braiding her hair, Paige walked closer to her. "Let me assist you with that." She said and Rose released her grasp on her hair.
"Thank you, Aunty." She smiled gratefully at Paige again.
"Is there something that brought you to my room?" Rose asked, glancing at Paige through the mirror again. Of course, she already knew something was up seeing that Paige hadn't brought her breakfast along with her as usual. "Young Miss, the Master arrived home late last night and asked me to call you downstairs to have breakfast together with Madam and your sister." Paige didn't bother holding it in and informed Rose.
"Step-sister, please address her inC0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
that title when we are alone Aunty. And I will come downstairs when I'm done here," Rose remarked, her
expression darkened a bit. Jo
hearing Sophia address her as sister irritates her but she had to alway
smile and mask her emotion.
"I understand and it's done." Paige nodded her head without arguing with Rose and did the finishing touches to her hair.
"I won't keep you waiting here, Aunty. I don't want you to get scolded." She said, gesturing to Paige to take her leave. "Thank you." Paige bowed her head before walking out of the room.
