ANNABELLE

A slight knock on my door woke me from my sleep. When I opened my eyes, I realized that I had slept almost through the day since Alpha Derek left my room to attend to Lady Emily.

My assigned maid, Omega May, entered the room.

“My lady,” she bowed slightly, “Alpha Derek instructed me to pass this to you.” She said, extending a gift bag toward me.

A small smile grew on my face as I opened the bag, eager to know what was inside. It was a dress. A stunning sapphire blue with a bright blue gemstone that shone brightly in the room. The dress had an elegant design with details that made it look sophisticated and luxurious.

“Wow…” Omega May exclaimed in amazement as I brought the dress out of the gift bag.

“It’s so beautiful…”

“I know, right…” I replied, my thirty-two teeth shining brightly in the room. The dress made me so happy that I found it hard to close my mouth.

“You’ll look so beautiful in it. Alpha Derek knows what is good for you.”

“You think so?”

“I know so. This dress is so beautiful that I’m sure not only Alpha Derek will be swooning for you tonight, but other male wolves too.” Omega May replied, and I could see the sincerity and happiness in her eyes, which made me so glad. At that point, she didn’t look like a stranger to me anymore but like a sister.

“Thanks, May.” I appreciated seeing how happy she was for me.

“For what, my lady?” she asked.

“For being a friend I could talk to.” I replied.

“I’m just doing my job, my lady, and I’m sorry for overstepping the line. I shouldn’t

have-”

“No! I liked it. Please be more open with me. I know no one in this castle, and I have no friends. I would be honored if you could be so free with me. I need a friend… So what

do

you say. May? Will you be a friend to me rather than just doing your job?”

“I can do both. I can be a friend and serve you well as my lady!”

“Really?!”

“Of course! If I don’t, who will, my lady?”

“Thanks, May. You can call me Annabelle, or Anne. I don’t like you calling me ‘my lady. It sounds so formal and old-fashioned, as if we’re in the nineties.” I chuckled as I finished.

“It’s what we are to call every lady serving the Alpha, and you happen to be the one so far, well except for her…”

I chuckled, already understanding what she meant.

So… How about while we are together and alone, you call me Anne? Like now?”

“Fine by me.”

“Great!”

“Okay, enough about all this, Anne. We have to sort out your makeup. I must make you beautiful! We must make Alpha Derek swoon just by looking at you. We must make him unable to take his eyes off you. I’m rooting for both of you. Team Deranne all the way!” May said energetically.

“Team Deranne?” I chuckled, “Is that the ship name for us?”

Yes

Team Deranne all the way. I’m not for Team Deremi. I really wish that ship would sink, not only me, but other omegas in the castle also.”

“Really?”

“Of course. You’re a breath of fresh air in this castle, and ever since Alpha Derek brought you, he has been so happy. For the last few years while I lived in the castle, we hardly saw Alpha Derek happy. He was always brooding and had never smiled, even when Lady Emily tried to make him happy. But with you, he smiles effortlessly.”

“Aww, really?”

“Not only that, the fact that Alpha Derek regained his voice back the moment he brought you to the castle-we all believe you came with a lucky charm. Luna Sandra had brought in many professional speech therapists, but none of them made him want to talk again. It was a surprise when he suddenly started talking the moment you stepped into the castle. You’re our lucky charm in this castle, Lady-uhm, Anne.”

I chuckled and blushed. I was glad that they thought well of me.

Thanks, May. You’ve made my day with these words.”

“We, the omegas, are happy that you brought life back to this castle after many years…”

She sighed. “You don’t have to be bothered about Luna Sandra; she isn’t so bad, but she is just so concerned about the alpha and thinks Lady Emily is the best for him.”

“But he is the alpha. He should be able to make decisions by himself.”

“He does, but only for the pack. The Luna doesn’t allow him to make decisions that have to do with himself. She believes he can’t make the right decision for himself. She loves to take care of her son and treat him like he’s still a child, though he has single- handedly ruled this pack for over twelve years now since the late alpha died.”

“Okay, okay, okay, enough, enough! I don’t want this room to suddenly become gloomy. Today is a big day, and we have to attend the party that Luna is throwing for Alpha Derek for regaining his voice.”

“Wait, what did you say the party is for again?”

“The alpha regaining his voice back. Is anything the matter?”

A burst of laughter escaped my lips as she repeated her words, instantly reminding met of Alpha Derek’s hilarious expression when he struggled to explain the occasion to me.

So this was what he was struggling to say?

I couldn’t help but smile…

“What’s making you laugh and then smile, Anne?” She winked, “Is it Alpha Derek, again?” She nudged me as she wriggled her eyebrows at me just like a friend would.

“Come on, leave me.” I laughed.

“Spill the beans! It’s Alpha Derek, isn’t it?” She tickled me, making me burst out with laughter.

Just then, a knock was heard on my door.

“I’ll go check who is at the door.” May said, moving toward the door. When she opened. the door, I saw the smile on her face disappear.

“Lady Emily seeks Lady Annabelle,” another omega, who was Lady Emily’s maid, reported.

“Lady Annabelle is busy.”

“Not only Lady Emily seeks her, May, but the Luna also, and it’s urgent.”
