Like a Bird in a Cage
The air in the morning was polluted by the fumes from every car or even large vehicles passing around the highways of Jakarta. This time there was no sunshine to illuminate the city. The clouds were even more lumpy which seemed to soon spill either water or even a splash of snow that fell on the earth.
Especially on the two girls who were now walking around the highway in their thick jackets. After exiting Mr. Kevin’s large mansion, the two girls decided to go home immediately even though it was still early in the morning. They took time off because they thought that Mr. Kevin would need them to find Gifer, but they were wrong. Mr. Kevin had a messenger who was more reliable than the others. While they were busy walking, Belvina suddenly remembered something.
“Gi, you should call Haris right now and ask him to get ready because Mr. Kevin is going to the company.” Belvina ordered. Anggi nodded and immediately picked up his cell phone.
“But, Haris usually doesn’t wake up at this hour.” Anggi said.
“Try it first, in case Haris changes.”

In the 14th floor apartment, there was now a tall man with his signature square smile who was curled up with his blanket. Last night he actually couldn’t sleep and chose to drink alcohol to calm himself down until the early hours of the morning. You could see from the bar table that there were still many bottles and glasses that the man had been drinking from. Until now he has been in his room and wrapped his body with a thick blanket because the weather is getting colder, and now the man is still sleeping soundly even though the time is already 8:00 am, but there is no sign of the man to wake up. While he was sleeping, the cell phone on the nightstand near his bed rang.

Even though the cell phone was ringing, the man was reluctant to open his eyes. He also forgot that he had to go in to work today and instead pulled the blanket closer.

The sound of his cell phone continued to ring and became deafening if a conscious person heard it. Repeatedly ringing, Haris finally heard it and woke up from his sleep. Haris immediately widened his eyes and tried to neutralize the light that entered his room. Hearing the phone that had been ringing Haris took the cell phone and picked up the call from his girlfriend Anggi.
“What’s wrong, baby?” Haris asked while scratching the back of his neck.
“Mr. Kevin will come to GF Corp later, you’re ready there, right?”
“What?! I haven’t left yet! In fact, I just woke up because I stayed up late last night. What time is it?”
“Oh my dear, it’s already 8am, you haven’t left yet? You’re too much! Anyway, you have to hurry up and leave before Mr. Kevin gets to GF Corp first, got it?” Anggi’s advice was full of emphasis on the other side of the phone.
“Alright, I’ll get ready first.”
“Hurry up, he’s going to talk about something important.”
“Yes, my dear.”
The phone was hung up, Haris immediately moved from his bed to the toilet to clean his body.

“How’s it going? Has Haris left or not, Gi?” Asked Belvina curiously because she wanted to immediately get a ‘Yes’ answer from her best friend.
But Belvina’s hopes turned out to have been dashed because that was not what she heard from her best friend’s mouth, but the opposite. Of course it also made Belvina even more nervous. Anggi just shook her head with a sullen expression on her face.
“No, even Haris’s voice was like he had just woken up, hoarse.” Anggi answered.
Anggi felt guilty to Belvina for not being able to answer ‘Yes’ and the problem would be solved with that, so the CEO of the company wasn’t empty and kept running as usual.
“Oh my, then what if Haris comes late?”
“That’s what I’m worried about, but… well, let’s just pray that Haris isn’t late.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“Gifer hasn’t called you yet, Vin?” Anggi asked. Belvina shook her head and bent her lips downward.
“Not yet.”
“You didn’t check Gifer’s cell phone that you now have?”
“Why check it, I trust Gifer that he won’t mess with me. But checking for a call must be it, because I still hope Gifer will call from his own cell phone. If not memorizing my phone number, at least Gifer memorizes his own phone number, right?” Belvina said with a smile, although her heart felt pinched because Gifer hadn’t contacted her yet.
“Yes, indeed, in a relationship, trust is the most important thing. I pray that Gifer will contact you soon, amen.”
“Amen, thank you, Gi.” Belvinya embraced her best friend while still walking in the cold of this winter.

In New York, now Nara, Kiano, and also Yohanes were deliberately observing Gifer’s movements from the CCTV that had been installed in the house where the sweet man lived. Even Gifer did not know about it at all.
“I’ll go to Gifer’s house first and ask him to buy something that the man wants.” Kiano said.
“Right, sis. You might as well persuade Gifer to marry me.” Nara ordered with a grin.
“That’s later, Nara. You shouldn’t be rash, everything needs a process. Gifer has only been in this country for one day. Gifer has never left the house at all, usually in Jakarta Gifer knows the right places and prices, here Gifer can’t do that without the help of a bodyguard. Getting him to marry you right away, that won’t be easy because we have to pressure him with another threat. I’m thinking about it too.” Kiano explained
“But how long can I wait, big brother? I just want Gifer to be mine completely.” Nara said.
“Patience, as long as Gifer is already in our hands, we will win, and you will be able to get Gifer.” Kiano suggested. Yohanes who was just a foreigner agreed and didn’t protest much.

In the house where Gifer lived, he was sitting while reading the daily newspaper that was delivered to his house every day by the paperboy.
“Huh… should I look for a job in this vast country?” Gifer monologued while occasionally sipping the warm tea he made.
Gifer put the tea back on the glass table in front of him, leaning his back against the sofa he was sitting on. All day being at home made him bored and wanted to breathe fresh air outside. But Gifer realized that if he went out, he wouldn’t have any money at all. He could only ask Nara or Kiano, and the last solution was to work. Therefore, Gifer tried to find a job in the country of New York through the newspaper he was holding right now. Instantly his eyes looked at the bodyguard waiting next to him and near the closed door of the house.
“It feels like a bird that is always locked up in a cage.” Gifer quipped.
The bodyguard next to him only gave a glance without responding to Gifer’s words. Gifer sighed roughly and brushed his hair back. Closing the newspaper he was reading, he stood up from his sitting position and walked towards the room. Yes, that was all Gifer could do right now. But when he walked towards the stairs, the deep voice of someone he knew also greeted his hearing.
“Gif, you can go out with the bodyguard and buy whatever you want.” Kiano said. Gifer looked back. The man who was taller than him not far from him walked over to him. He handed him a black card that already had some American dollars on it. Gifer accepted it and said,
“Thank you.” That was all Gifer said and after that he stepped up the stairs.
‘I wish you knew, Gif, actually I don’t have the heart to do this to you either, but my sister is more miserable if she can’t get your heart. I just want my sister to be happy, at least before her time is up.’ Kiano thought while shedding his tears that he had been holding back. Just a little, so that Kiano could still brush it away with his fingers and waltz away from the house.
