Chapter 653
Chapter 653 There's No Need to Change for Me
Michael gritted his teeth through the pain. "Grandpa, I just don't want to make things difficult for Chloe."
"You don't want to make things difficult for Chloe, so you make things difficult for me instead? I'm old, who knows how much time I have left. Do you really want me to die with regrets?" Michael looked at him with helplessness. "Grandpa, don't say things like that."
Seeing how strong and healthy Admas still was, Michael wondered why he would speak as if cursing himself.
Admas, still fuming, raised his cane as if to strike Michael again but stopped halfway. After all, Michael was his grandson, and he couldn't bring himself to actually hit him.
"That guy downstairs, James, he's interested in Chloe, isn't he?"
Michael was momentarily taken aback. He honestly couldn't tell what James felt for Chloe.
Sometimes, it seemed like James had feelings for her, but other times, it seemed like their relationship was purely platonic.
He really didn't know.
Seeing Michael's silence, Admas grabbed his ear and twisted it. "What am I going to do with you? You can't even recognize your own rival! You've wasted all these years for nothing!"
As Michael descended the stairs, Chloe glanced at him. Noticing him rubbing his back, she blinked but didn't ask any questions.NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
She was still busy tending to the spot on Maggie's shoulder where Vicky had slapped her earlier.
"Ms. Nelson, thank you," Maggie said.
Chloe waved it off, saying it was nothing.
"Ms. Nelson, could I have a private word with James?"
Although she saw James discreetly shaking his head at her, Chloe stood up and said, "You two talk, I'll go put the first aid kit away."
As she got up to leave, she deliberately ignored the helpless look on James' face.
In the garden, Chloe carried the first aid kit over to where Michael was sitting on a bench. A lamp nearby cast a soft light over the area. Hearing her approach, Michael looked over. "What are you doing out here?"
Chloe didn't answer his question and instead sat down next to him. "Did your grandpa hit you?"
During the three years they were together, Admas hadn't hit Michael often, but every time he did, he didn't hold back.
"It's no big deal, just a whack with a cane."
Michael replied nonchalantly. Chloe turned to look at him, a hint of exasperation in her eyes.
"Let me take a look."
Given that they were outside and the injury was on his back, he would need to take off his shirt for her to see.
Seeing him hesitate, Chloe asked, "What's wrong?"
"Is it serious?" she thought.
She barely finished asking when he
tugged at his collar with a
mischievous grin. "It's just...
convenient here. How about
very
go
back to the room?"
Chloe's expression darkened. They were both adults, and she could catch his hint.
"Do it or I leave."
"I'll take it off! I'll take it off!"
Michael turned his back to her and unbuttoned his shirt.
His skin was pale, making the red marks on his back stand out sharply.
Chloe took out some alcohol to disinfect the area, then applied some ointment before saying, "All done. You can put your shirt back on."
As he dressed, still with his back to Chloe, Michael said, "Chloe, don't be upset with my grandpa for keeping your identity a secret." Chloe paused for a moment.
She was smart, and Michael knew
that as soon as his grandpa
appeared, she must have guessed something, especially after his
grandpa kept mentioning the Miller
family.
It would have been hard for Chloe not to connect the dots.
She carefully put away the alcohol and closed the first aid kit. "I'm not angry with your grandpa."
She was shocked and nearly couldn't accept it when she found out she was a member of the Miller family a few days ago.
If she had known before her mother passed away, she couldn't guarantee how she would have reacted.
She felt Admas must have had his reasons for not telling her.
"Chloe, we really are connected by
fate. Before we were even born, there was already a marriage agreement between us. Then, by
some twist of fate, you actuallet
became my wife. It was destiny, but
I failed to seize the opportunity."
Chloe listened to his words, falling into a contemplative silence.
She still wasn't quite used to seeing Michael so melancholic in front of her.
In her memory, he had always been decisive and strong-willed. But recently, he seemed cautious, which was unlike him. "Michael, there's really no need for you to change anything for me."
