Branch Thirty One
Jessica had the food to her fill and then she left to the house. She entered the house and went straight upstairs since she already had a hearty dinner. As she pushed the door open she met Xavier sitting on the bed in casual wear. Her eyes went to the wristwatch on her wrist. It was barely past seven pm but Xavier was around.
“You are home early?” she asked entering the room and closing the door behind her.
She dropped her bag on the table and went over to the can’t table removing her earrings and putting them into her jewelry box.
“Yes, I thought we could have dinner together like you suggested,” Xavier said looking everywhere in the room apart from her.
Jessica stared at Xavier through the mirror in her front. She could sense his discomfort when he said that. He took all the courage to ask her to dinner. If she said no or turned him down he might take it the wrong way.
She would just have to suck it up and have two dinners. She could not possibly die from overeating. Or could she?
“Oh, I am sorry. If I had known that you wanted dinner together I would have come back to prepare something for you” Jessica said omitting the part where she had already eaten her dinner.
“I got off work early and decided to come home early for dinner” Xavier lied.
Quite the contrary. Since he was the acting CEO he did not have a lot of jobs on his table but he decided to do all the work himself since he was a perfectionist. He had shared the responsibility of the day and Brian had commended him for allowing him to go home early for the first time this year.
Xavier had enjoyed to a fault the meal that Jessica took her time to prepare this morning. He had a meal from her before but it felt shabby. Her breakfast spread this morning was marvelous and tantalizing to the taste buds.
He was sure his investment in her company would not be a waste. He knew she would make good food. He wanted a taste of her meal again. His pride was in the way though because he couldn’t bring himself to call her so he came home hoping to catch preparing something for herself then he would ask to join in.
He was disappointed to see she had not come back from visiting his grandfather. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“If you are feeling tired, I can just go out to grab a take-out meal for us” Xavier suggested.
Although he was looking forward to eating her homemade meals, he thought it inconsiderate to ask her to cook. He was praying that she volunteered to do so on her own.
“Just say the word and I would whip up something quickly” Jessica counted.
She loved preparing meals and finding someone to finally do that for was very heartwarming to her. Xavier felt an involuntary smile come up his face which he fought.
“Anything would do” he answered happy he was going to be eating her meals.
Jessica got cooking and cooked something minimal. Since she did not have the time and she was slightly exhausted she only cooked spicy pasta with cream sauce.
When Xavier say down to eat at the table he was somewhat disappointed with the light spread as compared to the morning. He did not take it to heart since she had short notice and she was also exhausted from the day’s activity.
He thought it thoughtful of her to prepare a meal for him regardless. He had always had an extremely hard time eating meals. He skipped breakfast because it reminded him of his mom. His lunch time was usually occupied with lunch meetings which he would barely touch not to talk of eating.
He usually had salad or any other light thing for dinner which was usually not enough. He was working so hard yet getting little meals.
Something about Jessica’s meals made him at peace when he ate them. He liked them but he was not going to admit it to her face.
“Would I be seeing you for dinner tomorrow Mr. Delgado?” Jessica asked ahead.
She was currently forcing herself to eat with him so he doesn’t feel lonely. She lived in an orphanage so she knew that it could be very lonely to eat alone when your mates refused to play with you. She suffered from such stigmatization from her peers.
Xavier stared at her. Was she going to keep addressing him as Mr. Delgado while she addressed strange men by their first names?
He loved being formal but if anyone hears it they could easily pick up on their act and it would be her fault. He just did not like the way she addressed him.
Jessica picked up the look on her face and she knew he did not seem satisfied. She has barely said a handful of words but he was picking offense somewhere.
“Did I ask something wrong?” Jessica asked.
She would be the bigger person and apologize if he said she was in the wrong. She wanted peace and fighting with him in his own house was not a good move for her.
“I apologize if I did” she added when he did not respond.
“I will be home for dinner tomorrow and every other day. When I can’t make it I’ll send a text saying so beforehand” Xavier said before stuffing his mouth with a spoonful of pasta.
Xavier’s work was so and so. Some foreign investors could come for dinner and he would need to attend to them so they feel okay. So as long as that did not happen he would be home for dinner from now on.
“That would be fine,” she said with a smile and forced a spoonful down her throat.
She had filled her plate with half of what she usually ate, yet since she already had her fill she was still struggling with finishing the food.
She looked up and saw that Xavier was done with the meal. He chugged a cup of sparkling water and stood up to leave. He was at the doorway to the dining area when he stopped and turned back.
Jessica looked up at him. It was obvious he had a bucket load of things to say. It just seemed that he did not know the best way to go about saying them.
“Is there something you would like to discuss with me?” Jessica asked helping him.
“Yes,” he said as a matter of fact.
“I am with you,” Jessica said dropping her cutlery on her plate and paying rapt attention.
“Me. Delgado?” she said when she noticed he was absent-minded. He was probably thinking of a way to bring up the topic.
“That, that can you stop that?”
