Accidentally Married

Branch Eighty Nine

“Haaa” Jessica screamed as she stood to her feet. The plate in her hand dropped to the floor and shattered. She took a couple of steps backward and stood as she watched him in amusement.

“What?” he asked as he stood up watching her stand there with extreme shock on her face.

She turned to move when he shouted for her to wait. “Wait, you don’t want to get injured by the glass,” he said walking cautiously toward her.

“Stop!” she screamed when he was barely three more feet away from her. “I’ll clean this mess and get a new plate” she added.

She was going to act like nothing happened because it did not. His mouth just barely grazed hers and she knew it was a mistake. As much as she would have lived for it to be true. She knew there was no way he was attracted to her.

“Let me handle it,” he said not giving her a chance to respond before he moved to the kitchen. He came back armed with a broom and a dustpan in hand.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

He dropped them to the ground and lifted Jessica. As she felt her leg leave the ground a shriek left her lips. It was a brief moment before he dropped her at the other end of the room.

He had carried her before but this was different. Maybe he was overthinking the situation and there was nothing different. She watched as he carefully packed the glass into the pan using the broom. He did it and went to empty the contents into the bin.

He came back to stand before her. She blinked multiple times trying to think of what to say. He did not speak but watched her reaction intently. He was the one who caused them to graze lips. Was he not going to say anything about it? Was he waiting for her to talk first?

“Ermm,” she said clearing her throat. The awkwardness in the room overshadowed so much that a knife would have been too dull to cut through it.

“Yes,” he said suddenly as if he was snapped out of a daze.

“What?”

“What?” He stopped to think before he burst out laughing. “Have you always been this cute?” he asked as he turned and went back to the couch.

Jessica could not take it anymore. It was as if she was being courted and at the same time as if it was not happening. She needed to get to the matter of it.

Was he toying with her because they were not home?

“Xavier,” she said her voice stern and demanding.

“You just stole my first kiss,” Xavier said looking like a child who had been cheated of his goodies.

“What?” she asked astonished. “I stole it? You were the one who grazed your lips against mine” She was not going to address it as a kiss. She believes that a kiss would be done between those who loved each other and the two of them did not fall into that category.

While she had a crush on him she was unsure of his feelings and did not want to jump to any funny conclusion.

“Did I do that?”

“Yes you did,” Jessica said her voice going up several octaves. She felt as if Xavier was trying to play the victim when she had been kissed with her consent.

“I apologize,” Xavier said suddenly.

“For?” she asked.

At that point, Xavier just wanted to know how her life felt and hence what he did but from the expression on her face and the tone of her voice, it was obvious that she did not like it neither did she take it lightly.

“Kissing you,” he said.

Ever since he had taken her to the beach he wanted to spend more time with her and since they had this holiday they did not plan for it would be easier for them to get closer.

He did not need to ruin the atmosphere by doing anything like that again. “It’s just that we were talking about kissing and I was reminded that I hadn’t had my first kiss too” he added.

‘It was his first kiss. Chill Jessica. There is no need to be so mad and upset about it’ she told herself.

Seeing him look so vulnerable like a child made her just wave it off for him. It was quite sad that a man his age had yet to kiss a girl and that she was his first.

‘I am his first’ she said to herself as an incredible smile tinted by her red cheeks climbed up to her face. She might not last in the relationship with him but it was sure that he would never forget her now. She was planted in his memory.

“It’s fine,” she said as she moved to the kitchen to take another plate. “Let’s have breakfast and have fun since we are close to the beach”

They had the meal in silence. Since Jessica was learning to be a strong woman she was not going to let the circumstances of having a kiss stolen from you distract her. After the meal, Xavier entered the bathroom while she cleaned up the kitchen.

After a while, he came out looking all neat and proper. He wore a dress shirt with the first few buttons undone. His usual cooperate looking hair was let down today with a little curl to it. His cologne filled her nose as she took it in.

“I better get ready too,” she said entering in. She closed the door and pressed her back against it. How could he kiss her and dress up so nicely? How was she supposed to forget about it now? There was no way she could.

“Hello,” Xavier said over the phone. Ethan sent him a message to tell him that if he needed anything he should call his secretary.

Since they were in Aurora Haven they would take the opportunity to tour the city and have nice meals. Maybe Jessica could shop a little too. He arranged with the secretary to have a car and a functional god be dropped off for them. He would take care of the rest himself.

“Okay sir,” the secretary said as Xavier hung up.

Jessica came out with her hair packed in a fancy style. She was not going to allow Xavier to out-dress her. If he was making her uncomfortable she needed to make him uncomfortable too.

“We would be going to the city. I heard that Aurora Haven has some of the best restaurants too” Xavier said.

Jessica could not feel any more special. Her job was being a chef and he suggested that they go on a food taste trip was all she needed to look at him with love.

“Sure,” she said excitedly. “But how do we get there?”

“Trust me,” he said as he heard the tires of the car skid into the rough road in front of them.
