Chapter 25
“Makayla, come in here for a moment.” Eric’s loud voice boomed through the intercom.
Makayla sighed, rising up to her feet. The issue about them traveling together seemed to have been forgotten since he never brought it up again. This time around, Makayla had no idea why he needed her. Sometimes, she was just tired of him and his antics. It seemed everytime she was on her seat, he always looked for ways to send her on one assignment or the other.
Makayla knocked gently, pushing the door open before walking in. His office was as cool and serene as ever and the only thing that seemed out of place was the documents scattered around his table. He was putting them in order as she stepped into the office. Makayla stood a little distance away from the table, wishing he could just get on with whatever he wanted to say. She needed to go back to her table to resume the task she was doing earlier.
“I’m here Sir.” She said.
“Oh great, have a seat.” Eric said.
Makayla found this odd because Eric had never offered her a seat anytime she came to his office. The only explanation to all of these is that there was an ulterior motive to why she was here.
“I’m perfectly fine Sir.” Makayla said.
She controlled her anger because she had no idea how he would react to that. It was better if one person had his head above the waters.
The look on Eric’s face was hilarious. Never in his life did he expect Makayla to talk to him like that.
“I see. Well you can remain standing if that’s what suits you.” He said.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Makayla sighed in relief. She was quite glad that he wasn’t dragging the matter beyond this point.
“Well I called you here to inform you that our trip has been cancelled. Turns out I could have easily done the meeting virtually which I’ve already done rather than traveling all the way.” He said, scratching his head.
To say Makayla was relieved would be an understatement, she was free. She couldn’t imagine staying with him in the same hotel room. He was egoistical and very proud and Makayla knew she wouldn’t even last a day with him. She couldn’t wait to tell Jason to see his reaction. Her army boyfriend hated him like the dirt on his feet.
“Okay.” Makayla simply said.
She wasn’t about to give away her relief for fear of him changing his mind. She had come to learn that as far as her boss was concerned, he could do and undo. He was that bad and Makayla desperate wished she had another better paying job than this. If she had that, she wouldn’t waste anymore time to drop her resignation letter.
Eric walked towards her with a smile smile on his face. His face was smug and Makayla knew he was about to either say something bad or worse, do it.
“You know Makayla, you’re a very pretty girl.” He grinned.
He stopped in front of her, flicking an imaginary dirt off her face. Makayla took a step back, loathing his touch on her body. She didn’t know what had come over him but one thing she knew was that she wouldn’t stand there and watch him touch her.
“Thank you Eric.” Makayla said, staring at him dead in the eye.
“You know, that’s the first time you’ll call me by my name.” He chuckled.
“Well, you gave me the option of calling your name or addressing you as “Sir.” Makayla said.
“I like my name on your lips more.” He grinned.
Now, he was showing all signs of being a maniac and she knew she had to leave the office as soon as possible.
“Would there be any other thing you’d like me to do? I need to get back to some of the pending work on my desk.” Makayla said.
“Yes, there is one thing though.” He said.
“And what would that be sir?” Makayla asked.
“I want you to go out with me for dinner this evening.” He said.
Makayla did a double take, wondering if he actually said what she thought she heard. She couldn’t quite believe he had the effrontery to ask her out.
“So what do you say?” He asked.
“I’m sorry Sir, I can not. I have some things to do this evening.” Makayla said.
“Hmmm things like what?” He chuckled.
“I’m sorry but that’s private.” Makayla snapped.
She was done playing the good and quiet employee. Eric had breached into her private life and she knew it was proper to give it back to him. She wasn’t going to settle for being a pushover like some of the other employees she knew.
“I see.” Eric laughed.
Makayla remained quiet, staring at the man who was trying to make her life a mess. She knew she couldn’t allow him to and she vowed to block every of his antics.
“I need to get going sir, if that would be all.” Makayla said.
“You’re free to go but I want you to know one thing Makayla, I’ll get you. I don’t know how or when but I’ll surely get you and then, you’ll be mine.” He said without emotion.
Makayla shivered in fear as his words resonated within her mind. From what he said, Makayla knew she’d be a fool not to take that as a threat. Now, it was clear to her that she had an enemy and she was prepared to fight him at all cost. She didn’t care how but she knew it had to be done.
“We’ll see how that goes.” Makayla hissed before walking out of the door, slamming it with enough force to rattle the hinges.
She got to her seat as tears welled in her eyes. She didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of seeing her cry and quickly wiped her tears with her sleeve. Right now, Makayla knew she had to tell Jason everything that was going on.
In this case, he was the only one who could help her deal with him. He was strong and had a lot of connections and Makayla was quite glad she had someone who loved her and was ready to do anything for her.
Eric had drawn the first blood and this time around, Makayla was ready to emerge the victor.
