What Separates Me and You

Chapter 272 I Want to Play a Game

Damian was shell-shocked upon hearing his son’s answer. He appeared as if he had been struck by an invisible bolt of lightning, standing dazed and rooted to his spot.

He would never have thought that Quintin would marry Lewis’ ex-wife. If he were to marry that man’s younger sister or ex-girlfriend, Damian wouldn’t have looked so shocked in the first place.

“Ex-wife!” The word echoed in Damian’s head.

Seriously, Damian had no idea what Quintin was up to. There were billions of women in this world, yet he decided to pine for the one woman who used to be Lewis’ wife.

Guilt started brewing in Quintin’s heart as he listened to the prolonged silence coming from the other end of the line. “Are you done? I’m going to hang up now.

“Hold on!” Damian roared, “Quintin Fowler, I don’t care why you decided to marry Lewis’ ex- wife, and I certainly don’t care what you think of me! I’m going to tell you this right now- that woman’s ex-husband is currently at Fowler Manor as we speak! You better bring her back home right now, or else I won’t let you off the hook! Ever!”

A deep frown graced Quintin’s features at that moment. Flames of rage burned in his eyes as he gritted out, “Is he nuts? They are already divorced, yet he keeps pestering Josephine! Just how shameless is he to go to our house and demand her presence?”

“You’re the crazy one here! I can’t believe you decided to marry a woman who got abandoned by another man instead of another woman! Hurry up and bring her home, you hear?”

Quintin retorted, “I won’t ever bring her home!”

“Are you trying to rebel against me?”

“Yup! That’s what I plan to do!” Quintin snarled out in return. “I didn’t see you hesitate when you slaughtered my dogs! You’re fearfully quaking in your boots now that Lewis is at your doorstep! What happened to the courage you had when you were slaughtering my dogs, huh?”

“You little-”

Quintin hung up on Damian right away, not wanting to argue with him any longer. In fact, he even turned off his phone out of spite.

He felt guilty for nothing all this time. It turned out that Damian didn’t hesitate to berate him the moment the call got connected, which successfully ignited Quintin’s fuse.

He let out a deep sigh before calming down and returning to the cafeteria.

Josephine found herself observing her husband’s face. His cheeks were still red, most likely due to anger.

Hence, she gestured, “What happened to you?”

“It was nothing.” Quintin pushed his plate aside, still irritated by the phone call,

After a moment’s thought, he added, “We should leave Elysium tonight, Josephine.”

The young woman looked surprised. She had no idea why Quintin decided to change his mind at the very last second. Didn’t they agree on leaving the city tomorrow?

“What’s wrong? Do you not want to leave tonight?”

Josephine shook her head before gesturing, “Isn’t this a little too hasty?”

“Nope. I think now is a great time to leave. You know, just in case Lewis comes searching for you again.”

Josephine felt a surge of emotions swirling in her heart the moment she heard Lewis’ name. At the same time, her eyes glossed over in a dazed state.

“Do you want to leave?” Quintin asked again.

Josephine went silent for a moment before nodding in agreement. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.

She was now married to Quintin. There was no other place she could call her home in Elysium, so she might as well leave.

“Good. Hurry up and eat. We’ll leave once you’re done.” Quintin refused to stay in Elysium for even a second longer.

Josephine pushed her plate aside as well. She then gestured, “I’m done.”

Meanwhile, Jack looked puzzled as he listened to the one-sided conversation. He piped up anxiously, “Quintin, are you going to leave right away? Then, are you coming back in the future?”

Quintin shot Jack å look before reaching out to ruffle his hair with mixed feelings. “I think so.”

Jack’s eyes reddened at that moment, and a sense of reluctance filled his gaze the next moment. After all, the friend he admired so much planned to ditch him for the sake of leaving the city with his new wife.

“You have to come back and visit me, alright?”

“Alright, got it.” Quintin grabbed Josephine’s hand and led her outside. “Let’s go right now. Elysium has nothing to offer us, anyway.”

He led Josephine to the Volkswagen parked outside the orphanage.

The moment she got into the car, she could feel her heart inexplicably starting to thump wildly.

She turned her head to look at the night sky outside the window. Maybe it was because she was

about to leave the city she was familiar with for another unfamiliar place.

Once she reached that place, she wouldn’t know anyone there, which meant she couldn’t communicate with anyone else. The only person she could rely on was Quintin.

Josephine was plagued with fear of the unknown and the insecurity of the future.

Back in Fowler Manor, Damian didn’t know what to say to Lewis.

He shot a hesitant glance in Lewis’ direction before forcing a smile. “Mr. Alvarez, this son of mine is too rebellious for his own good. We didn’t know that he had caused so much trouble. I’ll definitely teach him a lesson once he gets back.”

Lewis sat on the couch calmly with his legs crossed. The light blue hospital gown was hanging limply from under his windbreaker.

Even so, Damian was still intimidated by the sight of the sickly man.

He couldn’t fathom why Quintin would marry Lewis’ ex-wife in the first place.

Besides, even though that woman was his ex-wife…

Josephine was still the ex-wife of the one and only Lewis Alvarez. Who else would dare to marry her now that she was permanently branded with that identity?

Wouldn’t that mean her new husband would make an enemy out of Lewis if he were to marry her?

Lewis just smiled coldly. “It seems that you’re unable to convince your son to come home, Mr. Fowler.”

Stunned, Damian quickly replied, “I can! I’ll have my men drag him back here and let you deal with him as you please!”

“There’s no need for that.” Lewis drew to his feet coolly. “I’ll make him bring her back to me in person.”

Damian’s heart started beating wildly as an alarmed expression took over his face. “Mr. Alvarez

Lewis didn’t plan to continue the conversation. Instead, he strode out of Fowler Manor without bothering to look at Damian.

Meanwhile, Quintin and Josephine had already traveled a long distance. Their car was about to merge into the highway.

Quintin started hesitating once again as they lined up to go through the toll booth. He didn’t know if the decision he made was the right one.

Then again, now that things had already progressed to this point, there was no way he would be able to turn back.

Josephine turned her head to look at him. Naturally, she was able to notice the conflicted look on his face, which prompted her to reach out and tug at his sleeve.

Quintin turned around to look at her as well.

Josephine gestured, “What will happen to your parents if you leave now?”

Quintin pursed his lips, not knowing how to answer that question.

Josephine continued, “Why don’t we turn back?”

Poor Quintin’s mind was crammed with all sorts of thoughts. At the same time, he was torn between proceeding with his plan or turning back. He never thought that things would become so complicated before he got married.

Now that these things started to crush him simultaneously, he found it difficult to resolve them effectively.

The traffic ahead had already cleared up, so Quintin drove toward the toll booth while feeling numb on the inside.

Josephine could only gaze at her lap, seeing as her husband refused to acknowledge her

concerns.

At that moment, Quintin’s phone started ringing.

He fished it out and looked at the caller ID. It was Jack.

A bad premonition slowly crept into his mind as he grabbed the ticket from the toll machine and quickly covered a short distance of the road before stopping by the roadside.

“Hey, Jack. Why did you call me?”

There was no response after that. “Jack?”

A deep and magnetic voice drifted through the speaker two seconds later. “Mr. Quintin, it seems that you didn’t take my warning to heart.”

It was Lewis’ voice!

Quintin’s expression changed drastically. “Lewis Alvarez! How did you get your hands on Jack’s phone? What did you do to him?”

Josephine’s eyes widened as well the moment she heard Lewis’ name.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Quintin. I just want to play a game with you.’

“W-What do you have in mind?”

Lewis thought for a moment before drawling lazily, “Let’s hold a competition, shall we? I’d

like to see who’s faster-you or the death of your closest friend.”

Quintin’s eyes widened to the size of dinner plates as he clutched his phone tightly. Then, he roared into the speaker, “Don’t do anything rash, Lewis! Don’t touch him!”

A soft chuckle escaped Lewis’ lips as he replied casually, “Weren’t you the one who acted rashly at first? From now on, I’ll slice one of your friend’s fingers every ten minutes. If he dies from blood loss, I’ll switch to-”

The man thought for a moment. “Hmm, I’ll switch to Mrs. Price, then.”

Quintin could only clutch his phone while quivering like a leaf.

Lewis Alvarez was definitely a lunatic.

Quintin spent a few precious seconds trying to snap out of his daze when he heard Jack’s blood - curdling screams coming from the other end of the line.

Panic and anxiety overwhelmed him instantly. “Jack!”

Lewis purred out the next few words like the devil he was, with Jack’s screams serving as the background music.

“Mr. Quintin, the game has begun.”
