Chapter 236
Chapter 236
When Yana arrived, Candice’s shoulder was feeling a bit better. The pain was still there, but she
could at least move slightly.
Yana was unaware of recent events. “What happened to you?” she asked, surprised.
Candice explained as she helped Candice change her clothes, and Candice was grateful that she
didn’t press for more details.
Yana’s eyes flared in fury as she listened. “Has your mother lost her mind? What sane person Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
would do such a thing?”
Yvonne’s
or was clearly irrational in anyone’s eyes.
Candice remained silent and offered no response.
Yana was about to say more when Candice’s phone rang. She took it up and handed it to Candice.
noticing that it was a call from the Dorrington Police Station.
“Ms. Renault, we need you at the station immediately.”
The situation with Ivor’s injury and the family conflict posed a complex challenge for the police.
Yana decided to accompany Candice to the station. “I’m curious to know what’s going through
your mother’s mind.”
The police station wasn’t far from Silverstone Hospital.
As Yana parked, a luxurious Maybach smoothly pulled up next to them. Astonished, Yana cursed
under her breath. Candice recognized the car as Alex’s without a second thought..
As predicted, Alex emerged from the vehicle. His expression was unreadable.
Candice chose to stay inside her car, preferring to wait until Alex had left before she stepped out.
However, her plans were interrupted as Alex knocked on her car window and gave her a piercing
look.
Candice hesitated before responding. The tinted car window concealed her from outside view, but
she felt as if Alex’s gaze pierced through and that he knew her exact position.
“Why the delay? Do you need me to roll out a red carpet for you to get out?” Alex’s deep,
somewhat muffled voice came through the glass.

Reluctantly, Candice pressed her lips together and slowly opened the door.
It seemed the police had called Alex in too.
As Candice stepped out, Alex had already started to walk to the station.
Although Yana had dined with Alex before, she remained cautious around him. She knew she couldn’t
leave Candice by herself…
Moving gingerly to avoid aggravating her injury, Candice took a painstaking three minutes to
cover the short distance.
Approaching Alex, they overheard him grumbling. “Quite the princess, aren’t we?”
Barely containing her frustration, Yana snapped back, “She’s injured, you know? And it’s not like
anyone’s stopping you from going ahead.”
Stunned, he ignored Yana and gave Candice a chilly look. “Do you even know why I’m here?”
His jaw was clenched, and he looked irritated. “Every minute that passes, my company loses
millions. Are your issues worth this much money?”
Candice realized the situation didn’t directly concern Alex, but he had still lent his support.
She bowed her head and apologized calmly, “I apologize for taking up your time.”
Yvonne waited inside the police station. Her eyes were red from crying, and she was still wiping
away tears. Peach stood silently next to her.
She heard footsteps, and glanced up. Her eyes landed first on Candice, then shifted swiftly to Alex.
She stared, apparently deep in thought, as if trying to make sense of something.
The police intended to handle the matter as a simple domestic dispute, which would simplify things and
hopefully avoid complications. With everyone gathered, the police prepared to mediate.
Candice firmly stated, “I apologize, but I need to clarify my stance. This is more than simply a family
dispute for me. It’s an intentional act of violence and assault.”
“What are you talking about?” Yvonne demanded before the police officer could respond. She slapped
the table, her eyes wide with disbelief. “How could you say such a thing? True, he hit you, but now he’s
incapacitated because of you!”
Candice maintained her composure and responded, “He reaps what he sows.”
“I am your mother, Candice!”

Candice replied steadily. “The moment you accepted that five hundred thousand, I told you we were
done.” She continued, her voice even, “Therefore, in my view, this is a deliberate act of aggression.”
She gazed at Yvonne, who had aged so much that she was almost unrecognizable.
She added, “I have the medical report with me. Ivor intended to kill me.”
Confusion flickered in Yvonne’s eyes, yet she retorted, “But he didn’t actually kill you, did he?”
However, she rapidly lost confidence at the end of her reply.
Yana was tired of listening from the sidelines. She chided, “Mrs. Dawson, isn’t that a ludicrous
thing to say? What if Candice had been killed? It seems like you can’t empathize with the pain
since you’re not the one suffering.”
Alex, who had been quiet, finally spoke in a deep voice. “The CCTV evidence is there. Shouldn’t we
follow the standard procedure?”
Candice turned toward him.
Alex directed his words to the police officer. “You identified me as a witness. My account matches
the surveillance. Plus, before the police arrived, I witnessed the perpetrator continue to verbally
harass the victim with abusive language.”
The officers exchanged troubled looks, their brows furrowed in concern.
At first, they thought it was just a typical family disagreement triggered by heightened emotions
from both parties. However, it was becoming evident that this was more than just a simple
dispute. This was a problematic scenario.
Candice, in a gentle tone, suggested, “If this case proves challenging for you, I can bring the CCTV
footage to the precinct myself.”
Her resolve to clear up the matter was apparent.
Candice’s proposition burdened the officers, who left the room after saying they needed to confirm
a few things.
Once they left, Yvonne collapsed into tears. She wailed, “What have I done to deserve this?”
Candice was numb to her mother’s outbursts. She bit her lip and turned around to express her
gratitude to Alex. The situation wasn’t his concern, nor was her reconciliation with Yvonne.
Nevertheless, his demeanor obviously indicated that he was on her side. “Thank you.
Alex looked at Candice with an impassive, deep gaze. “My only concern is preventing any unwarranted
trouble for my company.”
“Regardless, thank you for your assistance,” Candice said as she thought back to the previous
incident that Yvonne had caused.
Alex

Yvonne’s constant sobbing made Candice’s head ache.
Yana leaned next to Candice’s ear and playfully complained, “Hey, your mom has a strong spirit, and
she’s a lot to handle. Is that your sister beside her? She looks completely out of it, not even reacting to
her mother’s tears.”
Candice turned her attention to Peach. She hadn’t really observed her closely before and now saw how
much thinner Peach had become, her hair disheveled, and several bruised needle marks on
her arms.
Her brow creased in concern, but her thoughts were interrupted as the police officers re–entered
the room.
