Chapter 8 The Biggest Humiliation
Chapter 8 The Biggest Humiliation
"..." Emma looked away and didn't say anything.
" Don't want to talk about it? Why, did you break up with Alex?”
7 years ago, Emma packed her things and left the country. She cut off all ties with her family and
friends.
William searched for her like a mad man, almost going crazy from worry. It was only then did he hear
that Emma left for Europe with Alex, a new guy she was dating.
In the 7 years after that, the thought of Emma and Alex eloping together lingered in his heart like a
painful sore that won't go away.
This was the biggest humiliation of his life.
Upon hearing Alex's name, Emma was confused for a second but then quickly realized what William
was talking about. Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
Alex was just a sorry excuse Emma used to break up with William, hoping that this will make him move
on with his life…
"Mr. Montgomery," a nurse said, knocking on the door outside.
Emma was startled. She pushed William Montgomery away and quickly got up from the bed to stand
aside.
Seeing Emma's flustered face, William Montgomery's cold gaze deepened.
"What is it?" he asked through the closed door.
"I heard that you're not feeling well just now. Do you need a doctor to check on you Mr.Montgomery?"
"No need. Please leave, I'm tired."
"Of course, sorry to disturb Mr. Montgomery."
The sound of footsteps scurrying away sounded outside.
Emma breathed a sigh of relief and didn't dare stay any longer. She didn't even dare to look at William
Montgomery again. She hurriedly said, "I still have something to do. Goodbye Mr.Montgomery."
William Montgomery did not say anything as he watched Emma rush out of his room. For a while, he
was a little distracted. The warmth of her face still lingered on his fingers, making his heart ache
slightly.
He was suddenly angry with himself. Why did he still miss this cold hearted woman after so many
years?
For the next two days, Emma purposely avoided the VIP ward and performed every single emergency
surgery she could get her hands on. She figured if she stayed busy she could stop thinking about
William.
Jennifer visited William everyday. Jennifer did see Emma a few times in the hospital cafeteria and they
politely but distantly greeted one another.
"William, I asked the doctor today and he said that you still have to recuperate for a long time. Since
staying in the hospital is no different than staying at home. Why don't you leave the hospital earlier?"
Jennifer pretended to be casually chatting. She was peeling a grapefruit in her hand and cutting it into
pieces skillfully and smoothly. She handed it to William Montgomery. "Eat some fruits and get some
vitamin C in your system."
William's face was blank, as if he hadn't heard her, and she didn't know what he was thinking.
Jennifer's eyes dimmed. She put the fruit on the plate and changed the topic. "William, I've chosen a
few wedding venues. Do you want to take a look?"
"No need. Just pick whatever you like."
"Alright. I know you're busy. I'll choose one for us then." Jennifer hesitated. "Do we need to send Emma
an invitation card?"
Hearing that name, William's blank expression turned into a frown.
Jennifer quickly explained, "I just think that we are good friends after all. It's fine if she is overseas. Now
that she's back, I don't want to be petty and not send her an invitation. If you mind, we don't have to,
though."
"You're overthinking things." William Montgomery suddenly glanced at her, as if he could see through
her thoughts.
Jennifer shivered for some reason but she didn't know what to say.
William stood up from the sofa. "Didn't you want me to leave the hospital?"
"Ah?" Jennifer West was stunned. "Now… now?"
He let out a faint "Hmm. I don’t like the hospital's environment, and the air is suffocating."
When he said this, his face went back to being blank and emotionless.
Behind him, Jennifer's hands were tightly clenched. For some reason, the more William behaved like
this, the more uneasy Jennifer felt. It's as if William was growing distant with her, and she did not like
this feeling one bit.
